Goodbye Saintess (by Edelweiss W.S.) novel Chapter 75

“Honestly, who here could even dream of reaching my level on the social ladder?” Ezra’s voice cut through the room, dripping with arrogance.

The atmosphere shifted instantly. Everyone present knew they ranked beneath him in terms of status and influence, but none of them considered him important enough to impact their everyday lives. So why was he flaunting it now? Was he just trying to humiliate them?

“For God’s sake, can you just stop already? I’m so tired of your endless bragging!” someone snapped from the crowd.

“All you’ve got going for you is landing some high-paying job and your sister marrying rich! Honestly, I only showed up because Cici’s here!” another voice chimed in, sharp with disdain.

“What did you expect? Ezra thought his list of accomplishments would impress Cici, but she’s with someone better in every way!” the insults flew more freely now.

At the beginning of the evening, Ezra had at least managed to appear like a respectable gentleman on his way up the social ranks. But after his outbursts and the chaos he stirred, his old friends no longer held back their true feelings. Their barbs cut deeply, exposing the fragile ego beneath his bravado.

Ezra’s face darkened, a storm brewing behind his eyes. Anger radiated from him as he hissed, “You think I can’t pull some strings and get back at you for this? Think again, fools. Miley loves me more than you realize, and she’s on her way here now. She owns half this place, so you’re all screwed!”

The crowd stiffened, the tension thickening. Even they knew better than to push their luck any further.

“What a joke,” I muttered, shaking my head and turning away. I couldn’t stomach his one-man circus any longer.

Just then, the entrance swung open and a young woman in a sleek, elegant outfit hurried inside, her face etched with worry. “Ezra?! I’m here!” she called out anxiously.

Taking in Ezra’s disheveled state, her heart clenched painfully.

He was absolutely convinced Miley would back him up, as she always had.

But then, something unexpected happened. Her expression shifted from anxiety to surprise. Her voice trembled as she whispered, “G-Grimwald?”

Tears welled in her eyes as she cried out, “It’s really you, Mr. Grimwald! It’s really, really you! My hero!”

“Yeah. It’s me,” I said quietly, nodding in acknowledgment. She looked healthier and stronger than she had two years ago.

Suddenly, a question struck Miley. “Howard, did you punish Ezra because of Mr. Grimwald?” she asked, her voice heavy with disbelief and concern.
