Chapter 99
The three of them forced weak smiles onto their ashen faces, resembling people who had just been handed a death sentence. The weight of the moment pressed heavily on their shoulders.
“You actually believed him?!” Hera’s voice cracked with disbelief and frustration.
Sebastian’s blunt assessment had struck her like a bolt of lightning. The more she mulled over his words, the more she realized how accurate his critique was. He hadn’t been speaking nonsense or empty bravado.
Yet, this was the very same man who had lingered in her shadow for five long years. To her, he had always been a dull, unremarkable husband, barely worth noticing. There was no way he could possess such keen business acumen.
Her defenses flared instantly. “He’s never been involved in anything even remotely connected to business or finance. He’s just a firefighter! All he knows is putting out fires! Our projects cover a wide range of industries. How on earth could he possibly grasp the unique challenges of each one and solve them in a matter of minutes?”
She jabbed a finger accusingly in my direction. “That kind of insight is something only a once-in-a-century business genius could pull off! Does he even look like that kind of person to you?”
I stifled a laugh, barely audible beneath my breath. It was no surprise she had always dismissed my advice so easily. In her eyes, I was nothing but dead weight—a husband who could never measure up to her first love, with his polished manners and elite pedigree.
Well, I wondered, how would she react when she discovered that I alone held the authority to approve or reject their proposals?
Stan gave a hesitant nod. “I think she might be right. This has to be some kind of mistake, right? Why would Ms. Bishop lie about her husband?”
“Exactly! Just because he sees things this way doesn’t mean Baron Inc. will agree! He has no right to dismiss our work so casually!” Vernon snapped.
“He thinks he’s some kind of hotshot. Just wait until our proposals get approved at the Forum. Then we’ll show him,” Lena added, her voice laced with renewed determination.
The trio had regained their confidence, clutching at the hope that their hard work would finally be recognized and validated. After all the hours and effort invested in their proposals, they refused to let an outsider tear them down so easily.
“Everyone, please join me in welcoming my master to the stage!”
The room fell into a brief silence before erupting into thunderous applause. The atmosphere shifted instantly, charged with excitement and curiosity.
Baron was already celebrated as Astergrad’s business prodigy—a self-made legend in his own right. No one had suspected that he had been learning from someone else all along.
Could his remarkable achievements be the product of this mysterious mentor’s guidance? If so, just how extraordinary was this man?
“We are so fortunate to be here today. We’re about to witness the genius behind the genius!”
“Even a little advice from him is worth more than a lifetime of struggling on our own!” whispered voices rippled through the crowd, the anticipation palpable.
