He’s an Alpha She doesn’t Care novel Chapter 81

Wynta

She slept like the dead, and upon rolling over and picking up her phone to check the time, she saw that it was 0717, but she also saw half a dozen missed messages from yesterday and last night. She clicked the notification and saw all of them were from Tallah.

That surprised her a bit. She clicked into the message and scrolled them back to the first one to read them in order. It came through not long after lunchtime. That was why she’d missed them all; Jared had already been in her apartment and she’d crashed out without checking her phone.

It read ‘Wynta, I need to talk to you.’ Then ten minutes later ‘Please text me when you’re free. Then 30 minutes later ‘Something weird happened with Mr Miller.’ That one got Wynta’s attention. She thought about it for a moment. Something weird happened between her and Dwane? Maybe it was wolfen related and the girl being human was a little freaked out by whatever it was.

If she was his human mate, then maybe his wolf had looked at her only to have her see the color difference in his eyes. Or maybe he growled at her or something. Both those things could freak a human out. She didn’t know, it could be a variety of things.

Then an hour after that, ‘Wynta?… are you okay, are you in trouble, you’re not texting back?’ then just 20 minutes after that, ‘please call me, I’m really starting to freak out.’

Wynta hit the call button, it was clear something was going on with Tallah herself, but with Wynta not returning her texts, she’d somehow turned that to thinking Wynta was in some sort of trouble. It didn’t really make sense to her, but she didn’t think it was right to leave her freaking out, as she put it.

It took barely a few seconds for it to be picked up. It appeared Tallah was sitting waiting by the phone, “Wynta, are you alright, you’re not hurt?” Tallah’s strained voice rushed out down the line.

“I’m fine Tallah, why would you think I’m in some sort of trouble?” Wynta asked right back.

“Oh, um, well, your ex is in town… I just, well thought, maybe something bad had happened to you.” Tallah seemed to stumble over all her words.

“I’ve not even laid eyes on him since he’s been here, only his… best friend is all, and I laid it all out that I’m not interested in seeing him. So don’t concern yourself about that,” Wynta stated. “What is going on with you and Dwane?”

“Huh?” Tallah sounded a bit confused now.

“Mr Miller, Wynta prompted. “You texted me that something weird happened.” She prompted her.

“Oh, um… Well,” she was silent for a long moment. “Wrong Mr Miller, it was Ernesto Miller.”

That surprised Wynta completely. “Okay, what happened that freaked you out?”

“Can we like… catch up and talk privately, in person.” There was clear nervousness in Tallah’s voice.

“Yes, when?” Wynta offered. She wasn’t doing anything today, and if it was otherworldly related, then Wynta might just be able to resolve the issue, and ease her tension.

“Now, I’m up, you’re up?” Tallah asked right back.

“Yes, where do you want to meet?” she asked. It was clear the girl was anxious, but Wynta doubted it was going to be anything bad. She knew that Ernesto wouldn’t do anything bad to her.

“Come to my place, I’ll text you the address, but text me when you’re here or the doorman won’t let you in.”

“Okay, I’ll have a quick breakfast and come over, be there soon,” Wynta stated simply and clicked the line closed. She got up, heated the rice noodles and ate them. Her mind wondered to what Ernesto could do that could freak Tallah out. Had he seen something and warned her off… No, he wouldn’t do that. She was certain that all those heirs were allowed to date

anyone that they wanted to, and she’d seen the way Dwane was with Tallah as well. Ernesto wouldn’t get between them, not if he thought Tallah could possibly be his son’s Mate.

Wynta texted Tallah that she was there as the taxi pulled up. It was a nice-looking building that had a gated border and there was a playground off to the left within the boundary of the fence. She could see kids playing, laughing and running around early in the morning.

She smiled at seeing them all happy and running about, but then found the four women there all turning in unison and looking right at her. That was a very odd thing to do. None of those children had even seen her or pointed her out. But those women’s movements sent a bit of a shiver down her spine, and she suddenly didn’t think they were human, it was all in the way, each one of them stared at her, then they all seemed to glaze over.

That was all it took for her to understand they weren’t human, they were some otherworldly creature, and she took a step back instantly as one of them started walking towards her. She understood they would all smell her as a rogue wolf, even though she was dressed nicely.

They were likely perceiving her as a threat due to her rogue status, and the way she’d smiled at the children. They could well think she was here to try and snatch one, and unless they were actively looking to scent out if she was wolf-less, all they’d pick up was that she was wolfen.

Tallah came out of the building. “It’s alright, she’s my friend, the one from work I told you about.” she rushed out and Wynta stared at Tallah, as it dawned on her, the woman wasn’t human at all. She, too, was one of whatever these creatures were. Wynta had been working with Tallah for the past five years and just believed she was human.

Then something else occurred to her as Tallah came out the locked gate. If she didn’t know… then Edward and his unit wouldn’t know, or they’d have told her themselves. “Oh, you’re devious, more so than me.” Wynta snorted as she felt amusement well inside of her over this very thing, Edward was going to be dumbfounded, and she wanted to be right there when he found out “No one knows do they?”

“No.” Tallah shook her head. “It’s just our way.”

Wynta nodded, she’d never opted to hide that she was wolfen or a rogue, didn’t really care to. Being wolf-less, she wasn’t one to be hunted or snatched, attacked occasionally, but she had that aerosoled wolfsbane to protect her. Although she had been offered a way not to scent- like that by the owner, Maddison had offered her a way to actually make everyone think she was human. Wynta had declined it.

She’d stated they could talk here, which meant likely everyone in this café was also of her pack. Not that Wynta could tell, they all just scented human to her and up this close to them, she should’ve been able to pick up that otherworldly sensation.

She didn’t need anyone coming at her or presenting themselves as aggressive, and she actually saw a woman smell her, and then nod and say, “She doesn’t lie.” And everyone went back to their own business.

Tallah pulled her to a chair and ordered two coffees and sat down, then looked at her and then kind of just said nothing for a long moment. Seemed not to know what to say, so Wynta asked a question first “Do you have fox hearing?”

“Yes.” She nodded and then chuckled softly. “I hear everything that goes on between you and C20!

Jared in your office, between you and Mr Hayes or his men. It’s why… I, well, thought things were real between you.” She sighed softly. “I’m sorry he’s an asshole, is nothing like his father, I see.”

Wynta stared at her for a long moment now herself, as she debated what she should say on that matter. “He’s not an asshole.” She finally answered. “Just, what happened that day…”

“He didn’t like another man’s scent on you.” Tallah murmured. “My hearing is very good; it’s why I thought there was something going on.”

“It was all staged, everything that happened outside the office that led up to that moment in the office. My ex was apparently about to snatch me off the street. He’s wolfen and Kyan kissed me to stop it. What Jared did was all just for show. Nothing more, that kiss… I don’t know.” She shook her head. “I certainly wasn’t expecting it.”

“Hmm, I tried to probe Dwane about it myself, but…” Tallah huffed. “The man just shrugged it off, though after what you said about him in the office that day, I kind of, well, implied he was an asshole along with Jared and his unit.”

“That’s bold.” Wynta smiled.

“Human to them, so they can’t really do anything to me,” Tallah waved it off dismissively. “I’m not a threat. But… Then I woke up in Dwane’s apartment.”

“Hmm, I know you got their undivided attention that night. Not just mine, but both Jared and Dwane’s.” Wynta smiled at her.

“What exactly do you mean? I don’t really recall anything other than inside the restaurant.”

“Dwane picked you up, and you snuggled all into him, made this weird little… chirping noise, rubbed your face into his chest.” Wynta saw Tallah’s eyes go very wide at her words and stated, “It did not go unnoticed at all, and Jared asked me a silent question, I shrugged it off, told him as far as I knew you were human.” She chuckled softly “Going to shock them a lot.”

“You can’t tell them what I am, Wynta, we don’t do that, keep mostly to ourselves,” Tallah stated, but Wynta could see her thinking now.
