Jared
He was unhappy about waking up and finding out Wynta had gone off by herself. He had explained to her what he thought, what they all thought, that Nolan was going to try and take her back to his pack and reclaim her. Yet she still just got up and vanished and was intentionally ignoring his calls and texts now as well.
It had taken a full threat of a city-wide search for her to get her to message him, and still she wouldn’t tell him where she was, just that she was out shopping and wasn’t alone. He didn’t even know who she was shopping with. He nor his unit or anyone in Jenson’s team had seen her socialize with anyone outside of work this past week.
So, he had no clue as to if she was telling the truth. He stood out on his balcony and connected himself to the doorman ‘Chris, what time did Wynta leave the building and how?’ he asked.
‘Just before eight and she caught a taxi, Chris answered, ‘Do you want the footage sent to your phone?’
‘No, but her demeanor?’ Jared asked right back.
‘She smiled and said good morning, I’d say nothing was wrong with her. Why?’ Chris asked now.
‘Just checking.’ Jared murmured and disconnected the link.
He looked at the answers to his texts. They did appear to be her usual style of taunting him. He sighed as he stood there. Maybe he shouldn’t have pulled the team off her completely. Maybe he should just keep it on her for weekends?
He stood out there and breathed in, he couldn’t scent her, though if she was shopping, she’d be in a mall that would hinder him. So that would also mean it would hinder Nolan as well. At least that was something.
His unit strolled in, they were all showered and dressed now, as he was from the morning run they’d all been on, they’d left the apartment complex at six and gotten back just after 8.30am. They’d missed her leaving the building. He’d not known she was gone until he’d ducked down to check on her, and she’d not answered her door, so he’d let himself in only to find out she wasn’t there.
He saw Emerson carrying food, he’d stopped and ordered breakfast to go from the café downstairs for the four of them. He turned to go inside and asked, “Dwane, have you had contact with Tallah yet?” She was the only person he’d seen cozied up to Wynta, he supposed she could be shopping with her.
“No,” he shook his head. “I sent a message this morning, before our run. Just a simple good morning, how are you doing? Kept it light and no flirting. In the hope I’d get a response. Nothing even now, though it’s got that little tick to say she read it.”
“So actively not talking to you then,” Jared sighed.
“Appears that way.” Dwane nodded. “Considering all that happened this week between you and Wynta, and how she messaged me… with what she said, maybe she’s decided to drop talking to me altogether.”
“Wynta’s not in the building, left at eight, apparently she’s out shopping with someone.” He was sitting thinking about it now, “What if they are out together? I couldn’t get her to tell me who she was with or even where. Barely got her to respond, ignored my calls even, I had to threaten a city-wide search in order to get a response from her.”
“Did that actually work?” Andy asked, staring at him with a slight frown.
“Mm, it did. She responded but then also told me she was ending the conversation,” he stated.
“You know, Jared, your father’s birthday is coming up,” Dwane mused.
“And?” Jared asked after a moment of silence.
“Don’t you need to go buy him a gift? Do some shopping?” Dwane smiled at him. “Tallah was all over Wynta at the restaurant, she reported Wynta getting bullied, and now Wynta’s out with someone and not telling you who, and Tallah’s not talking to me. They are girls after all, maybe they are shopping together.”
“I guess I do,” he nodded with a slight smile. That was exactly what he’d been thinking.
They were gone from the apartment as a unit after they ate, to the largest shopping center around and as they walked into it, he not only picked up a rogue scent, but he also picked up the scents of an Alpha and his unit. He closed his eyes and shook his head; this was the very reason she shouldn’t just go off on her own.
“That’s Nolan and his unit,” Dwane commented.
“I’m aware, Jared murmured, “he’ll be tracking Wynta, I imagine, and she’ll have no idea until he’s practically right on top of her,”
They tracked Nolan and his unit, not Wynta, and found him and his unit, all three of them in a high-end jewelry store, one that he knew both his mother and father used, one he used himself when he was in town. Though he’d not been home in a long time, he doubted they’d forgotten who he was.
He stepped inside along with his unit and watched as Nolan and his unit turned and looked at him, irritation flickered across all their expressions, but what could they expect? This was his home turf, not theirs.
Nolan raised an eyebrow at him. “Mr Hayes, fancy meeting you here?” he put on a perfunctory smile.
He watched the attendant serving Nolan, look from him to Nolan and then take a step back. Excuse me,” she stated, and walked away. She knew better than to hang about when two very wealthy people were going head-to-head in a war of politely worded insults.
Jared watched Nolan’s Gamma and Delta turn and look from Nolan to Yale a little wide-eyed, at Jared’s words. Clearly, they were not in the know of all the facts, he saw that man’s Gamma look right at him as if disbelieving his words.
Jared smiled at the Gamma. “Oops, did I let your boss’ filthy secret of trying to coerce her out …
My bad,” he smirked. “Wynta told me everything you’ve clearly left out, and kept a secret
from your own Gamma and Delta even, she trusts me, I’ve never given her a reason to doubt me, have you?” Jared shook his head, as the manager came back out.
“Mr Hayes, my apologies. I don’t have one in stock, but I can have one couriered here for you. It will arrive in four days.”
“Excellent, please do so.” Jared smiled at her. “Sort out insurance for it as well please.” He stated, “I’ll come back then.” He nodded and walked from the store.
“Those two didn’t know a thing,” Dwane commented as they walked away.
“That man is going to be asking a million questions considering Nolan is here to claim her,” Emerson stated as they all walked off.
“That’s why it was never him tracking her or trying to talk to her.” Jared nodded “Because he’d feel her out and find out about the sordid truth Nolan and Yale are trying to hide. If she brought it up, he’d know she wasn’t lying. He would likely be completely ticked off about it considering the bond they’re supposed to have.”
“Likely?” Andy muttered. “If you did something like that, I’d bloody try and rip your head off, if she was mine to protect. That man in there is going to be fumingly mad.”
“Only if he actually cares,” Emerson stated.
“He does,” Andy murmured. “s**t is about to hit the fan. I saw it. I was focused upon him and no one else. Behind that shock was a tightly balled fist at his side.”
“Good, it might just stop him from helping Nolan.” Jared murmured.
