Jared
They all now knew Tallah was likely to be a fox, and that she now had always seen not only him and his unit, but his father and his unit as Wolves all the time, she’d likely picked up on all the conversations he’d ever had with Wynta.
Those two looked quite cozy this morning. He was damned certain that Wynta hadn’t known she wasn’t human on Thursday night, but had, by Saturday, he and the boys had discussed it and come to the conclusion that after Ernesto’s call to her, she’d gone right to Wynta for advice, maybe tried to play some human insecurity card.
But had likely come clean, or Wynta had stepped onto that fox pack territory and understood it was a pack, and so Tallah had just outed herself. None of them were exactly sure as to how it had come about, but they were all certain that Wynta was in the know now, and she was also keeping it to herself.
She’d not text him or Dwane with the new knowledge she had about Tallah, and they’d opted to wait and see just what she would do with it. Would she tell them or not? She had worked for his father for five years, and there was trust there, a fun, playful relationship she had with his father and his unit.
So, it could be seen that she would tell him, but it seems not. The woman played by her own rules and this one… Foxes did like to keep to themselves where it was possible. He was 82 years old and hadn’t know there was a fox pack nearby. They’d kept that to themselves simply by not reaching out for any business dealings with Hayes industries.
Which realistically there could be, seeing as for the past eight years he’d been in Europe running his own business. That his mother was also from France, so there were international dealings with Hayes Industries, and shipping and transport did go between the two countries. So it was completely possible that they could have partnered up and become allied packs.
He was sitting thinking about it when Stacey placed his weekly appointments on his desk. She smiled at him. “You look different today, Jared.”
“Hmm, Wynta picked it out.” He answered without much thought as his eyes moved over the list of appointments. He touched one for Wednesday morning, “When did that get scheduled? ” he asked, turning his eyes to her. It was one Mason Keller. Tallah’s own father.
“They called first thing this morning. His Personal Assistant, Jacob, requested the first available time in your schedule. They’d like to discuss a new business venture. But that was all I got from the man,” Stacey answered.
“Alright.” He nodded and she left his office.
It was interesting to Jared that the man would come to him, and not go to Edward, and as he leaned back in his chair he wondered just what Mason was thinking. That man would know they were wolfen, he would also know that his father, Edward, was still the Alpha to the pack, that Jared was only an heir and nothing more. That dealings like this should be made from one Alpha to another, not with an heir.
He stood and walked to the window and looked out over the cityscape, as he pondered that very thing… it could only be to do with Tallah and Dwane’s connection, it was likely Mason knew that Ernesto had invited Tallah to lunch on Saturday, either she’d told him, or he’d been there for that conversation and heard it himself.
But they also knew no one here knew that they were foxes, or that Tallah herself, they now knew, was in fact going to be an alpha-blooded fox. Dwane was attracted to an Alpha’s daughter, and though nothing had happened much past casual flirting. He’d arced up at his own father’s actions, taken offense and displeasure at his father interfering and putting him on the spot, about who they’d all thought was likely to be his human Mate, but was now possibly going to be his fox mate.
This full moon would indeed be interesting, though Tallah was 30 from all reports, and she’d grown up here as much as they had, so why hadn’t she and Dwane connected before that? It was 12 years since she’d been scentable for Dwane. It didn’t add up.
He sat and checked the company files, for when Tallah had started working here, and he shook his head at the start date. It was eight years ago, just two months after he and his unit had left to live in France. Their packs were also too far apart for one to scent the other out in the four years prior to that.
He looked at her degree and where she had studied and sighed to himself, it wasn’t even here in San Francisco she’d studied at Harvard on the other side of the country, no wonder they’d never come across each other. She had likely only just come back to California as they were leaving, so they’d missed each other.
He was sitting again just thinking about why Mason Keller would come to him. He could only put it down to not wanting to draw Edwards’ undivided attention to himself, though he had to know the moment he met and tried to strike up a deal with Jared. That Jared would look him up, and likely bring it up with his father as well.
Their secret was going to be out very quickly once they started digging into that man and his company. So was this Mason Keller’s way of a simple introduction, or perhaps was it going to be him coming here to sus out Dwane, maybe even warn him off his daughter. Anything was possible. This meeting could not even be about business, just one Alpha to another Alpha where only one was in the know. But a business interested in a partnership was the best way to get a meeting.
He was just going to have to wait and see, though on Wednesday, that PA had asked for his first available appointment, he looked at his schedule. Half of them were just with the legal team for contract clauses. “Stacey.” He called out and she came into his office.
“Yes Jared.”
“Call Mason Keller’s PA and schedule him an appointment today, push my meeting after that S**** harassment course and prior to lunch to Wednesday, in place of Mr Keller’s. It’s just a review of the contract, before finalization, and that company needs it more than we do, so they’ll wait until Wednesday.”
“Alright.” She nodded and left his office.
“Yes, just like Tallah does,” Jared agreed with him. “I’m not certain if we should just play along with the game or treat him as the Alpha Fox we suspect him to be. What do you think?”
“I don’t know, we might not need to do anything. If that moon comes and there’s nothing between Tallah and I, then what’s the point of outing them at all? They don’t like that, much prefer to stay hidden and shouldn’t we respect their wishes?” Dwane commented.
“Likely so, but we’re allied to a fox pack in France, and do know how to deal with them. It might be better to just lay out all the cards, so to speak, that way there is no hindering putting you and Tallah in a room together.”
“You’re thinking of inviting him to the pack for a full moon?”
“It’s crossed my mind.” Jared nodded. “Would you want that, Dwane?” he asked his Beta.
“It would be easier,” Dwane murmured, “But you’re forgetting something yourself. Wynta is likely to try and duck off yet again, so where are you going to be? Are we going to be out hunting for her instead of inside the pack for that?”
“That is a good question. I’ll speak with her about what we know after this meeting as much as I feel Mason Keller will his own daughter.” He smiled. “You might just get yourself an alpha-blooded Mate, Dwane. How do you feel about that?”
“I don’t know to be honest. I liked that Tallah was human, and the way she stood up to me where you were concerned,” he sighed, “Now I understand that it was her Alpha blood boiling?”
“She’s still the same, just playing you, much like Wynta does me.” Jared dismissed it with a wave of his hand. “She’s a fox, so shy at times, that’s why they blend in so easily. She’s still who you thought she was, just will have a beast after marking and mating, I would dare say.”
They both sat there in silence for a long time and then Dwane stated, “Let’s play it her way. If she wants us to remain in the dark, let’s just do that for now. Mason Keller, is going to know we’re going to look into him, and see it for what it is. The question is, does Tallah know her father is coming in for a meeting?”
“I have no idea.” Jared shrugged, “If he’s anything like my father, the answer will be no, he’ll be doing things on the sly to try and get what he wants. I’m guessing business is not his actual agenda. I believe it’s laying eyes upon you.”
