"I was taking Nancy's daughter to see a doctor yesterday and ran into Yvan. He helped me out. That's all," she explained calmly.

"Just 'helped you out'?" Cornelia sneered. "Does 'helping out' mean spending two hours with you? And driving you home? That's not helping, that's fooling around. Winifred, Yvan is my boyfriend. Are you trying to be a homewrecker?"

Cornelia's voice boomed across the cafeteria, silencing the noisy room so completely you could hear a pin drop. All eyes turned to their table.
