How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 67

The moment Winifred got back to her department, Stella rushed over, holding out her phone conspiratorially. “Winifred, you have to see this.”

Winifred leaned in to look. It was a screenshot of Cornelia’s Facebook page. The post read:

“This is Cornelia Johnson, and I am here to clarify a few things. I am not Mr. Brown’s girlfriend; we have only met a few times. Out of a moment of jealousy, I slandered Dr. Spencer by calling her a homewrecker. The video that was circulating was edited and did not represent the truth. I sincerely apologize to Dr. Spencer and hope for her forgiveness.”

“Ms. Johnson actually apologized to you publicly. That’s unheard of,” Stella said, amazed. “What happened to her?”

Normally, something this humiliating would be impossible.

Winifred’s expression didn’t change. She said nonchalantly, “I don’t know. Who knows?”

“I bet someone put pressure on her. Otherwise, there’s no way she’d apologize to you in public,” Stella mused. “Could it have been that Mr. Brown? Look, she even specifically clarified that she isn’t his girlfriend.”

“I don’t know,” Winifred said, avoiding her gaze.

“I bet it was,” Stella’s eyes lit up. “Hey, since that handsome guy isn’t Cornelia’s boyfriend, maybe you could try giving him a chance? I mean, he’s so handsome, and he looks rich.”

Winifred rolled her eyes at her. “He’s handsome and rich. Do you really think he’d be serious about me?”

Stella argued, “But you’re very pretty, you have a great job, and you’re talented. You’re not a bad match for him.”

Winifred gave a small smile. “Do you know who he is?”

“Who?”

“His last name is Brown, and he lives in Zion,” Winifred prompted. “Who else could it be?”

Stella’s eyes widened in shock. “He’s from the Brown Group?”

“Yes, Mr. Brown,” Winifred said with a wry smile. “Do you really think a family like the Browns would let their son marry a simple dentist with no family connections like me?”

Stella paused, then shook her head. “Normally, no, they probably wouldn’t!”

“Not probably. Absolutely not,” Winifred said calmly. “For rich guys like him, a girl like you is just a pretty face, something new and fun for a while. So, don’t overthink it. They’re not for us.”
