There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line.
"Camila, it's me."
The voice of Eric Bailey came through the receiver.
Camila’s dazed expression snapped back to reality, instantly replaced by disgust. "Who gave you permission to call me?"
Ever since that night she and Eric had slept together, she had wanted nothing more to do with him.
It was just a drunken mistake, and she had warned him never to call or contact her.
"I want to see you."
"Well, I don't want to see you!"
"Alexander Ramirez is not going to marry you. You need to stop deluding yourself."
Camila noticed the voice was getting closer, almost as if it weren't coming from the phone anymore.
She spun around to see Eric Bailey standing just a few feet behind her, his eyes fixed on her with a deep, intense gaze.
"Whatever happens between Alex and me is none of your business. Don't think that just because we slept together you have any right to interfere in my life. Let me tell you, I am going to marry Alexander Ramirez!"
Camila held the phone up, her eyes moist with unshed tears of rage, as if she were trying to convince herself as much as Eric.
Eric stepped closer, suppressing the disappointment in his heart. "Why can't it be me?"
"Because you're not worthy!"
Camila spat the cruelest words she could think of. "The only man I will ever marry is Alexander Ramirez. We are the perfect match. You…"
Suddenly, a wave of nausea rose in her stomach, rushing to her head.
Camila didn't finish her sentence. She ran to a nearby planter, bent over, and retched against the trunk of a small tree.
"What's wrong?" Eric asked, hurrying to her side.
She didn't throw anything up, but the nausea was overwhelming.
Camila straightened up, feeling dizzy and unsteady on her feet.
Seeing how pale she was, Eric swept her up into his arms. "I'm taking you to the hospital."
At the hospital, after asking a few questions, the doctor got straight to the point. "Have you had your period?"
Camila suddenly remembered that her period, which should have arrived a few days ago, was late. A premonition instantly struck her.
She forcefully pushed the feeling down and shook her head.
The doctor immediately ordered some tests. Half an hour later, the results were in.
"You're pregnant," the doctor stated, looking at the report.
Camila’s face turned even paler, her hands clutching the hem of her clothes tightly.
"You don't need to worry about my affairs. Just leave now. I don't want to see you!"
"Alright. But it's late. I'll have my driver take you home."
Eric left his car for Camila. As he watched her drive away, his eyes filled with pain.

Natalie was curled up on the sofa, her gaze vacant.
If she hadn't gotten pregnant, if she hadn't had the miscarriage, maybe they could have reconciled.
But it had happened. She couldn't let it go, couldn't get over that hurdle.
And Alexander’s attitude toward the child had chilled her to the bone. If she got back together with him, how could she face the memory of their lost baby?
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Natalie walked to the intercom, saw it was Alexander, and turned right back around.
A few seconds later, the doorbell rang again.
Natalie didn't move. Eventually, the ringing stopped.
Her phone on the sofa lit up with a new message.
