I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 208

Alexander’s presence was almost too much to handle. He barely said a word, but the chill in his voice made Camila’s heart skip a beat.

She couldn’t look at him. Her eyes flickered to the floor.

“N-no… Why would I be scared? I’m just worried about the baby, that’s all.”

There was no way she could tell him the real reason. She was afraid that if the engagement got delayed, something would go wrong before everything was settled.

Alexander’s tone was colder than ever. “The Ramirez Group has the best doctors. They’ll make sure you deliver… this… child… safely.”

He lingered on those last words, and Camila could hear the warning behind them. His eyes were so dark and intense that she couldn’t even imagine what he’d do if he found out the truth. If he ever discovered the baby wasn’t his…

A shiver ran down her spine, but she was determined. Alexander Ramirez could never know where this baby really came from.

Just then, the hospital director came in with a team to check on her. After the exam, he announced the baby was stable. She just needed one more day of observation before she could go home. The director looked relieved. If anything had happened to the future grandchild of the Ramirez family, he would have been in serious trouble.

The group was about to leave when Alexander suddenly spoke.

“I have a question for you, Director.”

He didn’t want an audience, and the director got the hint right away. “Of course. Please, let’s go to my office. We can talk privately.”

Inside, the director personally made tea for Alexander.

“Mr. Ramirez, what would you like to ask?”

Alexander shot a look at Aaron Lee, who nodded and slipped out, closing the door behind him.

He hesitated, then added, “Both tests do come with some risks. The main concern is an increased chance of miscarriage.”

The room went quiet. The director watched Alexander, trying to read his face.

Alexander sat perfectly still on the sofa, his expression giving nothing away. His eyes were dark, nearly hidden by his lashes, impossible to read.

After what felt like forever, he finally stood up.

“Thank you for your help, Director.”

“Of course, Mr. Ramirez. And please don’t worry, I won’t mention this conversation to anyone.”

Alexander just gave a quiet “Mm” and walked out the door.
