Natalie glanced up at the second floor and caught a glimpse of someone in a black suit slipping through a doorway.
She didn’t waste time. Her fingers flew across her phone. [Not coming.]
She’d already kept her word by showing up at this party. Camila was still here. What on earth did he want?
[I’m not feeling well. Bring me a glass of water.]
Natalie shot back, [Ask your fiancée to bring it. I’m not your maid.]
Alexander replied, [She’s not feeling well. She’s pregnant. I don’t want her to get tired.]
So now she was supposed to play the servant? Did he seriously think she was his backup?
Anger burned in her chest. Natalie was about to type out a firm refusal when another message popped up.
[Don’t forget the interest. Either you come up, or I might just do something in front of everyone.]
Unbelievable. He really was a shameless jerk.
But she didn’t have a choice. Alexander was exactly the kind of person who’d make a scene if he wanted to.
Natalie sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Keeping her face calm, she stood and made her way toward the stairs.
Camila’s gaze tracked her the moment she got up.
Alexander had just left, and now Natalie was leaving too. Was she going after him?
When she saw Natalie heading upstairs, Camila relaxed a little. Alexander had said he needed some fresh air, which probably meant outside.
She thought about going after him, but then remembered the warning look he’d given her earlier. So she stayed put.
Natalie stopped outside the lounge. She almost reached for the handle, but at the last second, she knocked instead.
The door creaked open with just one tap. The room inside was dark.
The taste of blood filled her mouth. Alexander barely flinched. Then, almost teasing, he nipped her lip back, though much more gently.
He pulled away just far enough to speak, his voice low and rough, thick with something she didn’t want to name. “What are you, a dog?”
Her hands and legs were still trapped. She glared at him, furious. “You’re disgusting, Alexander Ramirez! Aren’t you scared I’ll tell Camila?”
That was supposed to be the woman he loved, his future wife. How could he do this?
Alexander reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. “Want me to call her for you?”
He sounded like he didn’t care at all. Natalie stared up at him, confused and angry. “She’s the person you’ve always wanted. You got her pregnant before we even divorced, so why bother coming after me now?”
When they split, he’d laughed at her for almost changing her mind. So what did he want now?
Alexander looked down at her, taking in her furious expression. His eyes narrowed, and then, suddenly, he smiled.
“What do you think? It’s just what happens between a man and a woman. She’s off limits right now… so I came to you.”
