I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 255

Alexander wanted Natalie to hear the news first. He hoped this would be their chance to start over. Still, the hospital just didn’t feel right for something like that.

“Book a restaurant for tomorrow,” he said. “I’ll give her the results in person.”

Thinking about tomorrow made Alexander feel lighter. Aaron, noticing his good mood, grinned. “Then I’ll order some flowers, too. You know, to celebrate you and Ms. Watson getting back together.”

Alexander smiled, saying nothing, but Aaron took it as a yes.

After her shower, Natalie checked her phone and saw a new message.

“I’ll pick you up after work tomorrow. Let’s go out for dinner.”

It was Alexander.

Natalie sat on her bed, fingers hovering over the screen, then replied, “I’m kind of busy tomorrow. Might have to work late. Let’s skip dinner.”

Arianna’s words from the other day echoed in her mind. She and Alexander really did come from different worlds. Too much had happened between them. She couldn’t let herself get her hopes up again.

A few seconds later, her phone buzzed. Alexander was calling.

She stared at the screen, hesitating, then finally answered just before it stopped ringing.

“I’ll wait for you, no matter how late it gets.” His deep, steady voice wrapped around her. “Remember when I asked you for one more week? I said I’d have answers for you.”

Natalie remembered that. He’d told her not to judge him until the truth came out.

“I remember.” She looked down at the faint mark on her finger where her wedding ring used to be.

He sounded softer now, almost excited. “Tomorrow’s the day. So, I really hope you’ll come.”

So tomorrow was the paternity test for Camila. Natalie’s heart twisted, caught between hope and doubt. Did she really want to start over with him?

When she didn’t reply right away, he spoke again, voice gentle and pleading. “Whatever you decide, please just wait until you know the truth. Can you do that?”

Alexander kept his face neutral, gently pulling his arm away.

“I asked Dr. Bell to add an extra test,” he said.

“What kind of test?” Camila asked, curiosity lighting up her eyes.

He glanced at her. “It’s nothing special. Just an extra check, for peace of mind.”

Camila smiled even brighter. “If it’s for the baby, I’ll do anything.”

At the hospital, a nurse led Camila to the exam room while Alexander waited in Dr. Bell’s office.

Time felt like it was crawling. After what seemed like forever, the door opened and Dr. Bell walked in quickly.

“Mr. Ramirez,” she said, “the results are ready.”
