Camila stomped to the door, rolling her eyes. She figured it was just the maid who’d forgotten her key again.
“Seriously? Making me get the door? Are you trying to get yourself fired?”
But when she opened it, she froze. Luke White stood on the other side, arms crossed.
“What, you can’t even open the door for your own father now?”
“Dad…” Camila’s voice caught. “I didn’t know it was you.”
She hurried to shut the door and trailed after him as he walked inside. “Why are you here? You could have just called. I would’ve come back.”
Luke looked around the villa, taking everything in. It was his first time seeing the place.
“I tried calling,” he said with a huff. “You wouldn’t answer. I had no choice but to come find you.”
He’d called her twice already, and both times she’d either hung up or just let it ring.
He dropped into an armchair, his face thunderous. “I told you to get Alexander Ramirez to let your brother out. Why haven’t you done anything?”
Camila quietly made some tea and brought it over, setting it on the table in front of him.
She hesitated. “Dad, Alex won’t let me get involved. There’s nothing I can do.”
“Nothing? Are you kidding me?” Luke slammed the teacup down, tea sloshing over the rim. “That’s your brother in there! Do you have any idea what he looked like when I saw him? He’s been beaten to a pulp, begging me to get him out, and you’re standing there saying you can’t help?”
Luke’s worry had eaten him alive. He’d pulled every string, spent a small fortune, just to see Benjamin days ago. His son was a mess, black and blue, desperate for help. He said people he’d never even met kept picking fights with him inside.
She met his eyes, steady and unflinching.
“Alexander and I are getting engaged soon. The White Group will recover. But if you keep pushing me to beg for Benjamin, Alexander will end the engagement, and our whole family will lose everything.”
Luke just stared at her, mouth hanging open. Camila had always been the obedient one, never talking back, never standing up to him. Even when he yelled or hit her, she’d take it without a word. She had never been like this. So cold. So distant. It was like she was someone else entirely.
Camila stepped closer, her gaze sharp and unyielding. Luke shrank back, almost cowering as he sank into the chair.
She lifted her chin and looked down at him.
“So, I hope you’ll announce soon that I, Camila White, am the next heir to the White Group.”
