I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 289

Natalie sat on the cold floor, her thoughts spinning out of control. The memory of what had just happened kept replaying in her mind, each time making her realize something even more unbelievable. She never would have guessed Camila White could be so ruthless, so desperate to get what she wanted that she would risk hurting herself and her unborn child just to set Natalie up. The shock was written all over her face, impossible to hide.

“The floor’s freezing. Let me help you up,” Bruce’s voice broke through her haze. He noticed the scrapes on her arm and frowned with concern. “You’re hurt. Come on, let’s get you to the infirmary and take care of those wounds.”

Natalie nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thanks.”

As Bruce tried to help her stand, a sharp pain shot through her leg. She broke out in a cold sweat, barely managing to get up before sinking right back down.

“What’s wrong?” Bruce asked, worry creeping into his voice.

“I… I can’t stand on my left leg,” Natalie replied, clutching it tightly and trying to keep the pain from showing.

“I’m taking you to the hospital.”

All around them, guests were whispering and casting curious glances their way. Some tried to piece together what had happened, while others openly stared at Natalie, their faces full of speculation.

“I heard Ms. White and Ms. Watson had a fight,” someone whispered. “Something about Mr. Ramirez and a baby…”

“Really? Natalie Watson is after Alexander Ramirez?”

“No way. I barely saw her talk to him all night. She was mostly alone.”

“Not true. I saw Mr. Ramirez catch her earlier when she almost tripped. The way they looked at each other—something’s going on.”

“What about the baby? Are they saying Natalie Watson is pregnant with Alexander Ramirez’s kid?”

Bruce shook his head, clearly frustrated. “This isn’t going to be easy to fix.”

Natalie’s voice was soft but steady. “I didn’t push her. She grabbed me and pulled me down with her.”

Bruce stopped the wheelchair, staring at her. “Are you serious? That makes no sense. The baby is her only way into the Ramirez family. Why do you think Alexander agreed to marry her?”

Before Natalie could answer, a group of doctors hurried past them, heading toward the operating room. Bruce flagged one down.

“What happened?” he asked.

The doctor recognized Bruce right away and didn’t hesitate. “Ms. White is losing a lot of blood. We might not be able to save the baby. The director and a team of specialists are doing everything they can right now.”
