At the far end of the hallway, Bruce pushed Natalie’s wheelchair toward them. After hearing that Camila might lose the baby, they’d come to see what was going on. Natalie was also hoping for a chance to explain things to Alexander.
But Savannah spotted her first. The second she saw Natalie, anger flared in her eyes.
“You’ve got some nerve showing up here!” Savannah snapped, rushing over. “You did this to Camila. You killed my grandchild!” She raised her hand to slap Natalie.
Before she could follow through, Alexander stepped in, catching her wrist in a firm grip.
Savannah turned, her voice shaking with disbelief and disappointment. “She killed your child, and you still want to defend her?”
Alexander’s voice was low and even, showing nothing on his face. “This is my child we’re talking about. I’ll handle it myself.”
With that, Savannah’s disappointment faded and she slowly lowered her arm.
Natalie looked up at Alexander, eyes filled with desperation and a hint of pleading. There was a bandage wrapped around her forehead, and her face was as pale as paper, making her look even more delicate.
But Alexander’s eyes were cold. There was no warmth, just ice.
“I didn’t push Camila,” Natalie said quietly, her voice steady even though it was soft. “She did it to herself, she—”
“Stop.” Alexander cut her off, his words heavy and flat. “People saw you do it. Are you really going to keep lying?”
Natalie’s leg was fractured. It wasn’t a terrible break, but it needed a cast right away. Even so, she insisted on coming here first. There was an innocent life involved, and she couldn’t just leave.
Bruce saw the situation getting out of hand and quickly stepped forward. “Alexander, Savannah, both of you need to calm down,” he said, his voice serious. “This all happened so suddenly. You can’t just pin everything on Natalie without hearing her side.”
He’d struggled to believe Natalie at first, too. But the story didn’t add up. If Natalie really wanted revenge, she’d have done it before, or at least not in front of everyone. If he could see that, he was sure Alexander could, too.
“Natalie’s hurt and needs treatment,” Bruce added. “Don’t let your emotions make you do something you’ll regret. And you know better than anyone what kind of person Natalie is.”
Alexander just let out a cold laugh and looked right at Natalie. “Do I really know her? Right now, I’m not so sure I know her at all.”
