I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 331

"Nora, we meet again." The man with dark hair and blue eyes spoke up first, his smile easy and warm.

"Mike?" Natalie blinked in surprise. She had just seen him not long ago in London during her report to headquarters. He was the COO of Billy Firth Headquarters.

Now, seeing him suddenly appear here in Cabinda, Natalie understood right away. He was the one sent from HQ.

"Welcome to Cabinda," Natalie said, reaching out her hand with a polite smile.

"Am I really welcome?" Mike grinned, shaking her hand.

They both knew exactly why he was here. There was no need to spell it out.

"Of course you are. As someone from Cabinda, I always welcome international visitors. And as the Chief Operating Officer, it’s an honor to have you here." Natalie kept her tone light.

Mike raised his brow, a hint of amusement in his clear blue eyes. "Nora, you’ve always had a way with words. But I’m not here to guide your work this time."

"I get it."

They understood each other well enough to skip the obvious parts.

Mike let it go, then looked at the man standing beside Natalie. "And who’s this?"

Natalie shifted a little, making room for the introduction. "This is Eugene Ramirez, founder of Veritas Legal. He’s my legal advisor."

Eugene nodded politely in greeting.

Mike gave him a quick once-over, then reached out to shake his hand. "Mr. Ramirez from Veritas Legal. Are you also part of Cabinda's Ramirez family?"

"Yes, I am," Eugene replied.

"I heard there was some trouble at the last auction in Cabinda, something to do with The Ramirez Group. Are you related to Alexander Ramirez?"

The question was blunt, leaving no space for pretense. Was Eugene, as a member of the Ramirez family, really the right choice for Billy Firth Asia Pacific’s legal counsel?

"I’ll do everything I can to help."

She looked at him, a spark of gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you, Professor Ramirez."

The warehouse was in the northern part of Cabinda. When they arrived, Natalie asked the new manager, Mr. Michel, to gather all the workers and see if anyone remembered anything strange happening on the 10th.

Most of the workers just shook their heads. No one recalled anything out of the ordinary that day.

Natalie felt a wave of disappointment. This was her last shot.

"We’ll figure something out," Eugene said quietly. "When we get back, let’s go over everything again and see if we missed anything."

Natalie nodded, ready to leave with him.

Just then, a voice came from the back of the group. "Ms. Watson." One of the workers stepped forward, looking a little hesitant. "I just remembered something. It’s probably nothing, but maybe it’ll help."
