I Refuse to Be Your Second Choice novel Chapter 332

Natalie walked right up to the worker.

“It’s okay, go ahead,” she said.

The worker hesitated, then spoke up. “One time I passed by and heard Nicholas talking on the phone with his family. It sounded like his kid was really sick. Something serious.”

Natalie thought about this, then looked at Eugene. “If that’s true, he probably went back to his hometown.”

“A sick kid needs money, and a warehouse manager’s salary isn’t bad. But he still quit.”

For most families, when a child gets seriously ill, parents do anything they can to pay for treatment. At the very least, they’d try to keep their jobs. But Nicholas didn’t just quit out of nowhere, he even left behind his year-end bonus.

Eugene didn’t need to say more. Natalie already understood.

“This could be a big lead. I’m going to check out his hometown, see if I can dig up anything useful,” Natalie said.

Eugene nodded. “When are you going? I’ll come with you.”

“Tomorrow morning,” Natalie said, not bothering to be polite about it.

Once they left the warehouse, Natalie called to have someone look up Nicholas’s address back home.

Eugene, who had come straight from the airport to meet at Billy Firth, headed back to Veritas Legal after they finished at the warehouse. He needed to prep some documents for the lawsuits against the people spreading rumors online.

Natalie got back to the office just as the workday was ending.

She’d promised to take Mike out for dinner, so she picked a well-known Chinese restaurant in Cabinda.

“The atmosphere here is nice. You’ll like it,” she told Mike as they got out of the car.

They walked in together, and right away, Natalie spotted Alexander Ramirez and Camila White.

Alexander was wearing a perfectly tailored navy suit, looking calm and distant as he studied the menu.

Camila sat across from him in a red dress, her makeup flawless and a sweet smile on her face. The two of them together looked like the perfect match.

Natalie paused for a second, catching Camila’s gaze.

Natalie smiled. “Definitely.”

They both took a sip.

Mike glanced in a certain direction as he drank, but didn’t say anything.

Halfway through the meal, Natalie excused herself to use the restroom.

Turning a corner, she almost ran right into Alexander.

Their eyes met. For a moment, everything seemed to stop.

Alexander’s gaze was as cold as ever, passing right over her face to the hallway behind her.

Without a word, he kept walking, brushing past her.

His shoulder barely grazed her arm, but it sent a chill right through her.
