Natalie Watson turned her head and froze for a second.
“Professor Ramirez?”
Eugene Ramirez, dressed in a sharp black suit, had a face that was usually gentle, but was now clouded with anger.
He had Benjamin White’s hand twisted at an unnatural angle, causing the man to howl in pain.
“Who the hell do you think you are!” Benjamin seethed.
“I’m the guy who just showed up.”
Benjamin finally got a good look at his assailant and recognized him. No one dared to cross the Ramirez family, not even Eugene Ramirez, who was known to be a lawyer. Besides, Eugene was a black belt in Judo; it was a fight Benjamin knew he couldn’t win.
“Oh, it’s you,” Benjamin said, his bravado instantly vanishing. He forced a smile. “Let’s talk this out, no need to get physical.”
Eugene released his grip. “What do you think you’re doing? Should I have you sent back to your family?”
“No, please don’t! I was just discussing business with Ms. Watson and inviting her to lunch. That’s all.”
Eugene turned to Natalie. “Did he hurt you? Did he do anything to you?”
The memory of Benjamin’s sleazy behavior was enough to make her stomach turn.
“No,” Natalie said, shaking her head. She already had issues with his sister and didn’t want any more trouble with him.
“See? I didn’t hurt Ms. Watson at all,” Benjamin said quickly.
“Then what are you still doing here?”
Eugene shot him a cold glare. Benjamin nodded hastily and scurried away, disappearing from sight.
Natalie let out a sigh of relief. “With an heir like that, the White Group’s days are probably numbered.”
“He’s the sole heir of the White family, utterly spoiled.” Eugene then asked, “Have you eaten?”
“Not yet.”
So, the two of them found another restaurant.
After they ordered, Natalie remembered to ask when he had returned to the country.
“I came back to visit my grandmother at the Ramirez Estate. She told me you’d gone abroad.”
After lunch, they both had to return to work. As they left the restaurant, Natalie remembered something.
“Professor Ramirez, there’s something I’d like to ask you.”
“Go ahead.”
Just as she was about to speak, she recalled what Alexander had said in the private room at the bar. If she were to partner with Veritas Legal now, would it just confirm his suspicions?
“What is it? What did you want to ask?” Eugene asked, noticing her hesitation.
Natalie snapped back to the present and spoke calmly. “Our company just established its Asia Pacific headquarters, and we’re in need of a strong legal team. London headquarters asked me to find one, and Veritas Legal was the first firm that came to mind.”
She decided to make the offer anyway. She couldn’t let a misunderstanding affect her work. She and Eugene had never crossed any lines. Besides, Veritas Legal was a top firm nationwide, and Eugene had a reputation for winning major cases, especially in corporate law. Her reasoning was perfectly sound.
Eugene considered it for a moment. “I can’t give you an answer right away. I’ll need to discuss it with my partners and see what they think.”
“I understand. You can call me directly once you’ve made a decision.” Natalie gave him her new phone number.
Across the street, inside a black car, a camera lens quietly extended and snapped a photo.
