Flavian’s POV

I was in the middle of handling a case at the police station when I received a message from Manu saying my father was at the apartment. My father alone with her wasn't something I wanted; he could be very cruel when he wanted to. But I had to finish processing that case before leaving, and it took longer than I would have liked. As soon as it was done, I called the duty clerk and asked him to cover for me, explaining I needed to leave due to a personal emergency but would return as soon as possible. It would just take enough time to get my father out and make sure Manu was okay.

However, when I got home, the scene I witnessed wasn't what I expected. A young man was on top of Manuela, pulling her hair. But who was this delinquent? I wanted to punch that punk's face until it turned inside out. How dare he laid his hands on Manu?

When I saw the woman approach to defend her son, I understood the situation. I immediately recognized Rita, Manu's mother - it had only been a week since I had seen her photo. But how had she gotten here? Manu told me she wouldn't give her mother the address because she was afraid of being dragged back home, and apparently, that was exactly what would have happened if I hadn't arrived.

I wanted to kill those two. I dragged them out of my apartment, not caring one bit about that woman's screams. I threw mother and son out onto the street and returned to the building, but before going up, I heard the doorman mumbling something, seeming nervous.

"What did you say?" I asked him.

"Sir, I checked their documents, I swear. I didn't think there would be any harm in letting the young lady's mother and brother in," The doorman seemed to shake with fear.

"What do you mean? Didn't you buzz the apartment?" I moved closer.

"No, sir. The woman said she wanted to surprise her daughter. I verified the documents and checked the mother's name against Manuela's document..." He spoke hastily.

"You let them in without notifying us. What the hell! Don't you people ever learn?" I slammed my fist on the counter. "Listen here, from now on, no one enters without being announced, without authorization from me and Manuela, I don't care if it's father, mother, or whoever the hell it is, but no one enters without permission. Understood?" The doorman looked at me terrified. "And definitely, that woman and that punk are not to enter here under any circumstances!"

"Y-y-yes, sir. I'll add them to the banned list," the doorman gulped, and I walked away, already sending a message to the building manager. It was necessary to give these doormen precise instructions.

I stopped in front of the apartment door and took a deep breath. It was locked, just as I had told her to do. I rang the doorbell and then said,"Manu, it's me. I've gotten rid of those two. Open up for me, little one."

I heard a sob and the door opened. Her eyes were red from crying, there was a handprint on one side of her face and a small cut on her lower lip. I wanted to kill those two for daring to lay their hands on her. I went in, closed the door and picked her up, carried her to our bedroom and laid her on the bed. She just kept crying, not saying a word. I got some ice and a glass of water from the kitchen, and a towel and first aid kit from the bathroom, sat on the edge of the bed, wrapped the ice in the towel and applied it to her face where it was red.

"Hold this here, love. Let me clean that wound. Are there any others?" I asked, feeling my heart sink seeing her in that state. She just shook her head.

I cleaned the wound, applied antiseptic and gave her a pain pill. I lay down beside her and pulled her to my chest. I couldn't believe a mother could do something so horrible to her daughter. Manu was delicate, loving, sweet - how could they treat her like this? I thought about how many times that punk had hit her and understood why her other brother had taught her to defend herself. This was unacceptable.
