I looked at Flavian's father over the cup I held to my lips. I lowered the cup and faced him directly.

"Mr. Moreno, I left home to attend college. As I told you before, my father always supported me. But my mother, like your wife, preferred that I had stayed home and gotten married, which wasn't in my plans," I replied with a polite smile. He was treating me well, so there was no reason for me not to be courteous.
