Manuela’s POV
Time passed slowly while I was sitting on that couch in Sabrina's hospital room. Flavian was quiet beside me, but his father was going out of his way to be attentive to me. He even went to the hospital cafeteria and came back with sandwiches and coffee, saying we should eat. The more he tried to be kind, the more I compared him to my mother and realized that money could change how people saw me. The more I thought about it, the less I wanted that inheritance.
"Hmm... oh... Fla-Flavian..." Sabrina stirred in bed, appearing uncomfortable.
Flavian looked at me as if he was walking on eggshells. I just nodded, indicating that he should approach her. He let go of my hand, stood up apprehensively, and walked to the bed.
"I'm here, Sabrina," he said as he approached, but didn't touch her.
"You came." From where I sat, I could see her smile and her hand extended for him to hold.
"I came, Sabrina, because you left me no choice," he responded coldly.
"Darling, don't talk to me like that, I'm feeling sensitive. Come, hold my hand, take care of me, Flavian, like last time." Sabrina was just being dramatic. I was certain she hadn't really tried to kill herself; she was just trying to manipulate Flavian, especially after the doctor said the amount of medication she took wasn't enough to be lethal. That's when I had no doubt she was just putting on an act.
"Sabrina, last time you manipulated me, and I was stupid enough to fall for your trap, but not this time. This time I only came because it would be cruel of me to leave someone I know alone in a hospital, but as soon as your parents arrive, and they're on their way, I'm leaving." Flavian spoke in a cold and distant manner.
"Flavian, you can't do this to me." And just like that, she started crying.
"Sabrina, you and I broke up a long time ago, and it was the best thing that could have happened. I found Manu, and I'm with her, and I'm going to stay with her because she's the one I love. You're being spoiled and willful."
"Flavian, if you don't come back to me, I'll die." Sabrina was crying as if she was in great pain.
I was sitting quietly on the couch, and Flavian's father beside me watched the scene looking dissatisfied - and he was the one who brought this woman back into his son's life. Suddenly, the door to the room burst open, and an elegant couple entered.
"THIS IS YOUR FAULT, FLAVIAN! YOUR FAULT!" The woman, who I was certain was Sabrina's mother, screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Lower your voice, this is a hospital." Flavian looked at her as if he would strangle her.
"Mom, it's his fault. I asked him to come see me, and he told me to kill myself." Sabrina cried in her bed. Flavian stood bewildered in the middle of this circus.
"You brat! What did you do to my daughter?" The man who had entered with the woman demanded, approaching Flavian, while the woman leaned over the blackmailer in bed.
"What did I do to your daughter? What about what your daughter did to me!" Flavian shouted. "This spoiled, reckless, irresponsible girl reappeared in my life just to torment me."
"Enough, Flavian!" The woman released her daughter and turned to Flavian. "You have responsibilities to Sabrina, obligations. Whatever little adventure you're having, you'd better end it and return to your wife's side."
My heart was racing in my chest. I was watching this horrified circus, never imagining such despicable people existed in the world. Flavian was about to lose his mind. His father remained impassive beside me.
"Wife? Oh, please!" Flavian let out a sarcastic laugh. "You're all just a bunch of gold diggers. I haven't had any responsibility to your daughter for years. And that was because she wanted it that way."
"Listen here, you spoiled boy, you're not going to discard my daughter like old paper." Sabrina's father was one step away from Flavian, both ready to come to blow.
"Oh, that's rich! Wake up, Teles, your daughter is an actress. She never tried to kill herself, this is just an act to blackmail me, but this time it won't work." Flavian shot back.
