Cam’s POV
We had discovered so many things in recent days, and there was still so much I wanted to know that my head was full of worries and spinning with anxiety. Thankfully, I had Olivia to support me and help me with everything. Things were changing in a way that affected all of us, but in the end, everything would be better. That was what I hoped for.
My father was already divorced from that criminal Rita, and everything went as we wanted - she kept the house, that place where Manu and I suffered so much, and she got that pompous car of hers. I didn't think it was fair, but I couldn't care less. For me, it was great to remove that snake from our family, and my father was happy to get out of this marriage, which he only maintained because of my sister. If Rita did what she did to Manu with him around, I didn't even want to imagine what would have happened if my father hadn't married her.
Now that my father was free from that criminal, we needed to take care of Manu, keep Rita away from her permanently, and prevent that woman from doing any harm to my sister.
With Flavian and Breno's help, I quickly got authorization to exhume my mother's remains and the baby buried with her for DNA testing. We did everything in the city where Breno works; the detective was more than excited about the story and being able to help. He opened the investigation and handled all the procedures with the judge. I was also quite relieved that the detective authorized Breno to look for the other family - it would be very difficult for them too, and the sooner they knew, the better.
I was here at the cemetery, accompanied by Breno, Olivia, and two forensic experts, waiting for the administration to approve opening the tomb.
"Did I make it in time?" My father arrived hurriedly.
"Dad, I thought you weren't coming!" I was surprised because the day before, he told me he wouldn't.
"I changed my mind, Cam. Burying my wife and daughter was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. She was young, had a life ahead of her with her children, and this baby never even had a chance to live. Being here and digging them up is very difficult, but I can't be a coward. And I can't leave you alone in this either." My father looked at the grave for a moment, as if saying a prayer.
"Orlando! It's been so long since I've seen you. I came to bring flowers to daddy's grave and could hardly believe seeing you here. Hi, boys!" Madeline, the local detective's wife, approached. This was exactly what we didn't need - her spreading gossip around.
"Would've been better if you hadn't seen us or pretended not to," I complained.
"You're always so rude, aren't you, Cam?" Madeline narrowed her eyes at me, and I huffed. "But Orlando, I really wanted to get your attention about that horrible thing you did to Rita. My friend is suffering so much because of you, abandoning her like that after so many years of marriage, and leaving her in poverty."
"Madeline, if there's one thing I'm sure about, it's that Rita isn't suffering. And I didn't leave her in poverty - she has an excellent house and a luxury car." My father limited himself to respond.
