Flavian’s POV
We left college and the police officers were waiting for me, leaning against their patrol car. I barely noticed Lexie and Peter Hank behind me. I approached the officers, about to explode with anger.
"Well, which one of you is certain that Manuela didn't leave the building?" I stopped in front of them, irritated.
"Detective, we didn't see the young lady leave," insisted the officer who had spoken to me on the phone.
"What the hell were you doing that you didn't stop that man?" I asked, feeling the urge to break both their faces.
"Detective, we didn't think it was necessary," the officer continued insisting.
"Didn't think it was necessary? You're here to protect her, she was under threat of kidnapping, and you see a suspicious guy but don't stop him?" I complained and saw the other officer nervously run his hand through his hair.
"You." I pointed to the other one. "You better tell me what happened here, or I'll report both of you to Internal Affairs and request your dismissal for misconduct." The officer stared at me.
"Detective, we saw the guy and thought he looked suspicious. I told my partner we should stop him, but there were some girls talking to us, and he said it wasn't a big deal. When the guy left, my partner was making out with one of the girls, and I couldn't stop the man alone - what if he had resisted? He left with someone, but we couldn't see their face because they were wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. And the car had no license plate," the officer explained, and I could hardly believe what I was hearing.
"Not a big deal? Someone was kidnapped, and that's not a big deal to you?" I glared at them, filled with fury. "I don't know what's worse - him making out with a girl during his shift or you being too scared to stop someone because they might resist. You're a cop, damn it! Armed! If the suspect resists, you respond with appropriate force. Get out of my sight, both of you."
"Detective, you're not really going to report us to Internal Affairs, are you?" asked the officer who had spoken.
"You can bet I will!" I said and turned my back on them.
I walked to my car, knowing who had ordered Manu's kidnapping and where she was being taken. I grabbed my phone and called Cam.
"Hey, Flavian," Cam answered cheerfully.
"Cam, they took Manu. A man entered the college and left with her. The officers on guard weren't paying attention. It must have been your mother who ordered this. I sent you the image of the guy who took Manu from here, see if you recognize him," I said all at once.
"Flavian, this can't be happening." Cam was nervous. "Let me see that image." He took a few seconds before speaking again. "This guy is one of Calvin's thugs, I recognize him. Flavian, this is not good! What time did this happen? What are we going to do?"
"It was around nine-forty at night. They haven't had time to get there yet, but they shouldn't take long. Cam, I'm going to gather a team and head over there. We need to get Manu away from these people quickly," I said.
"It's good that you're coming because we can't count on the local police here. They're going to cover for Calvin and Rita," Cam warned me.
