She rested her head on Phineas‘ shoulder as he stroked her bicep with his fingers.

“You must be tired,” Fermín called from the front seat as he half–turned to look at them at the back. He motioned to where his parents were sitting. “You could have sat up here in the front bench so we could chat easier.”

“I am tired. I’m used to getting more than four hours of sleep a night. I only woke up about twenty minutes ago. They let me sleep.” She watched Phineas reach his hand to Beni and Beni hold the thermos to him.

“Have some coffee, Sunshine,” Beni winked at her as if trying to reassure her. “Things always feel better when you’re caffeinated.”

“What is your normal routine back home, Juniper?” Fermín asked curiously.

“When I was working, I would get up at six, get ready for the day and then be out the door by seven. I didn’t live too far from the office where I worked. I could get there in an hour. I worked in HR as the director’s administrative assistant. I would work eight to five. My evenings were usually either spent with my ex–husband or my friends or with Mama when she wasn’t working.

“Hobbies?” Anna asked with a wide smile. “What did you do for fun?”

“I’m really just a homebody. I like to knit, and I like going to farmer’s markets and stuff. I really didn’t lead a highly exciting life, but I liked it. I liked being home and watching movies and being with my friends.” She looked away, when I was married, we were trying for a baby and we were struggling a bit so there were a lot of medical appointments and the like so as of late, I was resting as much as possible.”

“You had trouble with conceiving?” Anna asked sadly.

And carrying. The day I found out my ex was cheating, I lost a baby.

Fermín glared at Phineas, “why is he still alive?”

“He’s better alive.” Phineas shrugged with a glint in his eye. “I prefer to destroy him and everything he holds dear, take his woman and let him watch as she lives her best life with three men who will do for her what he never will while he suffers for all of eternity in misery and sadness. He liked to pretend he was wealthy and act like a hotshot lawyer seducing his clients. His father recently told Juniper in front of us that his son was too good for her. He’s next on our list of people to put in their place.

“Later today you and I are going to have a very long conversation with details on this asshole.Fermín grunted

furiously.

“Adil, send Fermín the file packet you have on Kyst Kennedy and his family.” Phineas looked at Adil.

“Happily.”

“You’re an investigator?Inigo asked him curiously.

I am.”

“Why not do what your family does?”

“We had a misunderstanding,Phineas gave a smile at Anna. “Nothing serious at all. We haven’t really been given a moment to sort it out since we are on our way to get Maeve, but Juniper knows I love her, and I know she loves me and everything else will work itself out.”

“It is clear these men love you.” Anna said with a wide smile. “When everyone was introduced last night I was quite worried for you for a brief moment, Juniper. I thought, perhaps you were being coerced or forced into a type of relationship which is not best for you. However, as the evening went on, it dawned on me how much these men truly love you. It evident in every touch and the way they cater to you. They were intuitively moving to protect you, serve you and care for you all throughout dinner last night.”

It is obvious. There is a part of me,Inigo spoke up, which finds this quad as you called it last night, Phineas, quite

disturbing and yet, who am I to judge the relationship of anyone else. When my daughter passed away, she passed upset that we didn’t approve of her boyfriend.”

“He was an idiot,” Fermín grunted.

“He was but it wasn’t our fight to have with her. It was her life. It was her relationship. We stuck our nose where it wasn’t wanted and in doing so, we missed an opportunity to let her learn for herself what is good for her. She died thinking we were at odds, and it is hard for me, even after thirty years, to accept this.”

“I’m so sorry to hear this,” Juniper spoke softly,

“No matter what you choose in this life,” Fermín looked at the group, “our main priority will be you, Juniper, and your happiness. However,” he gave the three men a glare which made her wonder if there wasn’t more to Fermin Aguado than meets the eye, “the things you did to this Kyst Kennedy fool will look like child’s play.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Phineas grinned at him.

“Then whatever it is you did to make her eyes look sad, fix it.” Fermin ordered as he gave Juniper a look, “you are an Aguado, You don’t take shit off anyone, not even if you’re outnumbered.”

Juniper looked at Phineas who winked at her, clearly not upset in the least at Fermin’s comments.

She was starting to wonder what kind of insanity she found herself involved in now,
