“They are in love,” Lois defiant declaration sounded half–hearted even to Juniper’s ears.

“No, we’re not, Lois.” Juniper spoke up. “I hate him. I will never forgive him for all the cheating, for all the lies, for all the scams. We’re divorced. We have a divorce decree which proves our love is done. Anything I felt for him in the past is long

“He’s not a piece of shit.” Lois was angry. “He lost his way, that’s for sure, but he was doing everything for Juniper. We talked at length about it Juniper. He was doing everything to give you a life you deserved.”

“I guess I do have some of my dad in me.”

“I hate the idea of breaking anyone’s heart, but the truth is, Lois, your husband is a lying sack of shit who started cheating on you in high school and because you love him blindly, he has never stopped. “Why are you coming so hard for him?” Carl asked angrily.

“Because he won’t leave me the fuck alone, Carl!” Juniper snapped furiously. “If for one fucking minute he accepted that he made the mistakes, he ruined everything and gave me the peace of mind I deserve by simply leaving me alone, then perhaps I would not be begging my fiancés and our families to make sure the book gets thrown at him. If he wasn’t stalking me, throwing up reminders of his affairs at every turn and if he even actually apologized for being an adulterous scumbag, maybe I would be simply living my best life without him in it. Instead, he, with your support and our encouragement, keeps coming for me like I owe it to him to take him back after he put his cock in or jerked off for so many women it’s impossible to count.”

“Juniper,” Lois spoke softly with tears on her cheeks, “he lost his way, but he loves you.”

“This is why we’re here, Lois.” Heloise spoke up. “We are here to let you know, you specifically, that if you don’t fuck off and leave Juniper alone, we’re going to drag you down with that little pissant you call a son. I’m going to call in every favor from every person I’ve ever worked with in my philanthropic and professional career. Juniper watched as Lois shot Carl a sideways glance. “If you need a divorce lawyer, I know a few. I’d strongly encourage you to get a forensic audit of his finances because I’m pretty sure Kyst was learning how to siphon money away from his father.” As Carl shifted uncomfortably, Juniper continued, “this is the last time I ever want to cross paths with you, Lois. You need to tell Kyst he and I will never share another conversation. If any of you see me out in public, walk the other way. We aren’t friends. We aren’t family. We will never get together again for any reason. I am done with you all.”

“But” Lois choked out a sob. “I love you like a daughter.”

“You treated me like trash, Lois. You pressured me for a child. You celebrated my broken heart with a Christmas ornament. You never accepted me as your family, but you pushed me to be nothing more than a womb you wanted control of. Someday, Kyst will get out of jail and maybe he’ll find someone else and fall in love and have a family with them and for your sake, I encourage you, to understand the boundaries I could never make you comprehend. Even now you’re trying to be involved. Now, use that involvement and tell your son he needs to stop. If he doesn’t stop, I’m going to pursue legal action beyond what we have already.” Juniper glared at her, “do you understand?”

Lois nodded as Juniper’s tone was blunt.

“I’m getting married. He is not invited. I will never see him again. Pass that along.” Juniper waved at everyone to leave. “Let’s get out of here.”

Heloise spoke up, “one last thing, Lois.” She glared at her, “I’m learning from your mistakes. I won’t treat my new daughter like shit the way you did. I have her back against you. Don’t try me, bitch.”

Juniper giggled until her father, Fermín, added his final thoughts and then she blinked and shook her head.

“Come near my daughter again, any of you, especially you Carl Kennedy, and you’ll wish it was jail where you were being punished. I’ll make you disappear off the face of the earth

after a painful stint in my presence and not a cop on the entire planet will be able to pin it to me. To quote my new friend Heloise, don’t try me bitch.”
