Chapter 224 Meeting Her Mother

Chapter 224 Meeting Her Mother

Bernard left the director’s office in a fury.

Kaden was his relative and had promised to look out for him, yet this was the support he got. In the end, he could only rely on himself.

Meanwhile, Nancy headed back to Martha’s room after briefing her team. As she passed

Hank’s door again, she saw that it hadn’t fully closed, and the voices inside drifted into the hallway.

Winter said, “Dr. Gales is getting old, and we don’t know who his mentee is. There’s really

only one option left. We should find Dr. M! She’s saved two patients every other doctor had given up on, and her success rate is 100%. Maybe she can save Grandpa too.”

“Alright. I’ll try to reach her,” a familiar voice answered.

The moment she heard it, Nancy knew that it was Miguel.

To her, his voice sounded like it belonged to a monster. A shiver ran through Nancy, and she spun on her heel to leave right away.

Just then, the door swung open behind her.

“Nancy?” Miguel’s voice landed sharp and clear.

Nancy paused for a heartbeat and kept walking, but Miguel moved quickly and stepped in front

of her.

He was wearing a black moto jacket. He was handsome, but the small mole by the corner of one eye gave his features a sharper edge.

“Nancy, it’s been a while. You saw me and didn’t even say hello?”

Nancy met his gaze, cool and steady. “What do you want?”

“We used to be close. But now, you’re so cold to me. It hurts.” Miguel lifted a hand to brush her cheek, his voice dropping lower. “We were supposed to be inseparable. Have you

forgotten? I’m the only one who knows your secret.”

Cold dread washed over her, like a door to hell had opened under her feet.

“Nancy.”

Suddenly, an arm pulled her against a warm chest.

Nancy blinked up at Gideon’s calm, chiseled face. His eyes, however, were fixed coldly on Miguel.

Miguel took in the way Gideon held Nancy in his arms. A shadow flickered in his eyes before his lips curved into a smirk. “Well, Mr. Fuller, it looks like you’re taken with my childhood

sweetheart.”

“We’re adults now. Stop clinging to childhood,” Gideon said, his voice low and steady. “Don’t you have any other friends?”

Miguel’s smile stiffened, then he shrugged. “No one like Nancy. I think about her day and night.”

“Didn’t take you for the type to pine after unrequited love,” Gideon said. His tone was mild, but the jab hit hard.

Miguel’s gaze turned sly. “Who said it’s unrequited? Nancy, you think about me too, don’t you? We share a secret no one else knows.”

Nancy’s eyes cooled. She caught Gideon’s sleeve and said, “Let’s go.”
