Chapter 228 Dr. M Took The Case
Nancy narrowed her eyes. She had never liked Winter, but she always had a soft spot for Hank.
Back when she visited the Seabourne residence as a child, Hank always smiled at her and tucked
small presents into her hands.
How could someone so kind have grandchildren so rotten?
Nancy thought for a moment, then accepted the request.
“Dr. M, when can you come?” Winter eagerly asked.
“I’m free on the 8th,” Nancy replied.
Martha’s surgery was scheduled for the 7th.
Nancy sent the reply and immediately put her phone away.
On her way back to Martha’s room, Nancy passed Hank’s door and heard voices drifting out.
“Grandpa, you’ll be alright now. Dr. M promised to take your case.”
“Really? The genius Dr. M?”
“That’s right.”
Winter had been raised primarily by her grandfather and loved him deeply.
Overjoyed, she stepped into the hallway and called Miguel to share the news.
Miguel sounded pleased. “I knew it. Grandpa is going to be fine. Whatever Dr. M charges, we’ll pay it.
“Alright.” Winter glanced back toward the room, then moved farther down the hallway and lowered her voice. “Did you threaten Nancy yesterday?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry,” Miguel said with a laugh. “Nancy will never escape from my control.”
Winter let out a sigh of relief, a flicker of malice in her eyes. “That bitch wants to be with Gideon? Not a chance! He’s mine. Miguel, toss her aside when you’re done with her. She’s never marrying into our family.”
“Relax,” Miguel said, amused. “I know where to draw the line. My future wife will come from one of the five great families. Nancy’s from the Lidells, so she’s not even in our league!”
He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other as his thoughts slipped into the past.
In Boraska, the five great families ruled at the top, and even they had their own hierarchy. The Moores and the Fullers stood in the first tier.
Since Nancy had been taken in by the Moores–even as an adopted daughter–her place in that circle had never been questioned.
Miguel had been taught from childhood to stay close to Nancy. However, she had always felt out of reach, like a glimmer of starlight slipping through his grasp. She was exceptional, and everyone wanted to get close to her.
No matter what he did, though, he never won her favor. It was only by chance–when he managed to help her–that he finally became her friend.
Even then, the gap between them never closed–until the day he uncovered her secret.
