Chapter 225 The Lead Surgeon Is Nancy

Gideon offered a small, steady smile. “Hello, Mrs. Moore.”

“Gideon, have a seat,” Freya said with an easy nod.

Most unlike himself, Gideon sat down obediently.

Martha looked kindly at Freya. “Go on. Tell me more about Nancy when she was little.”

“Of course. She was diligent, always focused and serious at everything she did…” Freya went

Nancy cleared her throat, feeling awkward.

While the two of them chatted away, Nancy and Gideon sat to the side peeling fruit.

The room settled into an easy, comfortable atmosphere.

Then, Freya suddenly remembered something. “By the way, Hank’s in the hospital room next door. Nancy, you and Miguel used to be close, right? If you have time, you should say hello.”

Nancy’s expression flickered, though her voice stayed calm. “We don’t really keep in touch anymore.”

“How come?” Freya sounded puzzled. “Back in school, you two were as thick as thieves. Miguel was always dropping by our place.”

“That was when we were kids,” Nancy said. “We grew up, and our lives went in different directions. We talk a lot less now.”

“Is that so?” Freya asked. “Well, Miguel has run into me a few times and always asks when you’ll be back. I think he really valued your friendship. You should keep in touch with him.”

Freya wanted Nancy to build a strong circle of friends. In this world, connections mattered.

As if about to push back, Nancy pressed her lips together, then simply nodded. “Okay. I got it, Mom.”

None of them noticed the two figures outside the door.

Raine and Fergus had come to visit Martha and hadn’t expected to find Freya inside.

Fergus frowned. “Who was that?”

“Mrs. Moore,” Raine said, startled. “She actually came to see Grandma.”

“Mrs. Moore? The lady of the Moores?” Fergus looked thrown off balance. “Why would she be

here?”

“I believe she still thinks about me,” Raine said, fingers clasped together. “Why else would she visit Grandma?”

“Really? Then why didn’t she adopt you before?” Fergus asked, baffled.

“Nancy badmouths me in front of them. If Nancy screws this up and Grandma dies, Freya won’t believe a word she says ever again.”

On their way over, they overheard staff members gossiping and learned that Nancy was the lead surgeon on Martha’s case.

They’d planned to warn Martha beforehand.

What the hell did Nancy know about medicine? Trusting her was no better than gambling with

Martha’s life.
