Neville wrapped an arm around Sapphira’s shoulders and looked his brother dead in the eye. “Paxton, in the past, I only cared about Sapphira’s happiness. I couldn’t be bothered to fight with you over the family’s assets, so I let you and your children have everything. But now, as Larissa said, you don’t deserve it. From this day forward, I will fight for everything that is rightfully mine in the Judson family. And I will leave it all to Larissa. I will not yield to you ever again.”
Paxton burst out laughing. “Hilarious. Bro, if you can’t win, you can’t win. Don’t pretend you were ‘letting’ me have it. You don’t even have a child. What are you going to fight me with? The daughter we threw away? Bro, you’ve been living a quiet life for too long. You’ve lost touch with reality.”
Just then—
“Oh? And what’s your weight in gold, Uncle Paxton? Are you worth your salt?”
A bold female voice cut through the tension.
Sapphira and Neville turned to see Larissa, safe and sound. They rushed over to her.
“Larissa, where have you been? Are you okay? We called you, but you didn’t answer. I was worried sick.” Sapphira gripped her shoulders, looking her over from head to toe, searching for any sign of injury.
Larissa smiled. “I’m fine, Mom. I’ve been in Regal City for three days and just wanted to look around. I lost track of time.”
After a thorough inspection confirmed she was unharmed, Sapphira finally breathed a sigh of relief. “But why didn’t you answer your phone?”
“I must have dropped it somewhere,” Larissa said with a shrug. In truth, she’d lost it when Finley’s men grabbed her. She only realized it was missing on her way back from her meeting with Haskell. She knew her new parents would be worried, but she never imagined they would go so far as to confront Paxton and Vivica on her behalf. Their wholehearted devotion was hard not to love.
“As long as you’re safe,” Sapphira repeated, relieved.
Honora, however, frowned. What’s going on? Finley took her away himself. How could she have come back completely unharmed? Did Larissa talk him out of it? Did he not have the heart to hurt his own sister?
Vivica couldn’t stand watching their mother-daughter reunion. “See? Your daughter is back, safe and sound. Sapphira, you come here and accuse me without any proof. It’s ridiculous!”
