After a moment of murmuring, a chorus of agreement rose from the guests. They weren’t about to miss the finale of this show.
“Do it!”
The group of socialites who were close to Honora tried to reassure her.
“She’s out of ideas. This is just a pathetic attempt to stall for time.”
“What is this, some kind of magic trick?”
“Don’t worry, Honora. We’re not falling for it. Her dress is one hundred percent a fake!”
Leopold lifted his chin, his voice full of arrogance. “Of course it is. I personally secured this gown for Honora. There’s no way it could be a counterfeit.”
Honora felt her confidence return. She put on a show of reluctance. “Perhaps we should just let it go. Tonight is Larissa’s party, after all. It was my mistake to wear the same dress. I’ll go and change.”
“No need,” Larissa said with a bright, cutting smile. “You went to all the trouble of wearing this dress to humiliate me. Why give up now when things are just getting interesting?”
“Larissa, I honestly didn’t mean to…” Honora began, her eyes welling with crocodile tears.
Ignoring her performance, Larissa signaled for Jett to kill the lights.
In an instant, the opulent ballroom was plunged into darkness.
Except for one spot. A soft, ethereal glow emanated from Larissa. In the pitch-black room, she was a beacon of light, as dazzling as a firework exploding against the night sky. The radiance wasn’t harsh; it was a gentle luminescence that illuminated her features, revealing a delicate beauty that had been overlooked in the bright lights of the ballroom.
