Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 282

Amelia led Ruby, now changed into fresh clothes, out of the bedroom. She caught sight of Daniel at the dining table, nearly finished with his breakfast.

Fighting the urge to make a snide remark, she treated him as if he were invisible and turned to Robert. “Let’s go.”

Daniel shot up from his seat. “Where are you going?”

Amelia still ignored him, helping Ruby into her shoes, handing her a hat and a child-sized water bottle.

Daniel blocked her path. “Amelia, I’m talking to you.”

The ghost finally forced itself into her line of sight. Amelia looked up, her tone cool. “Do I need to report my plans to you?”

Daniel’s jaw tensed. “You know it wouldn’t take much effort for me to find out.”

Robert, already by the door with his shoes on, chimed in, “We promised to take Ruby to the amusement park.”

We?

Daniel’s composure cracked. He stared straight at Amelia. “I could take her. Why does he have to?”

“No need,” Amelia replied, pushing past him with an open palm. “Mr. Campbell, you’re too busy. Odds are, you’ll get a call halfway through and have to leave again. Why bother?”

Daniel froze, shoulders rigid.

Three years ago at the amusement park, he’d left her halfway through…

Amelia didn’t spare a second for whatever expression her almost-ex-husband was making. She slipped on her own shoes, took Ruby’s hand, and walked out.

Daniel, heart clenched, started to follow, but Robert stepped in his way.

“Mr. Campbell, let’s keep this dignified.”

Daniel bristled. “She’s my wife, and you’re telling me about dignity?”

“It’s not about whose wife she is. It’s about Amelia’s wishes. We’re all adults; let’s not turn this into a scene. There’s a child involved.”

Through the lens, Ruby’s laughter was pure delight, her baby teeth showing in a perfect little row.

“A loving father and his devoted daughter. I’m about to tear up over here,” came a sarcastic voice from behind.

Amelia lowered the phone and rolled her eyes. Daniel. She took a deliberate step away, widening the distance.

Daniel’s handsome features darkened. With Robert, it was all smiles and photos; with him, she acted like he was radioactive. Was he some kind of infectious disease?

“Amelia, don’t you think you’re overdoing it?”

She kept snapping pictures. “Who’s really overdoing it, following us to the amusement park? Are you ever going to let up?”

Daniel leaned back on the rail, his tone as hard as steel. “Is this your private amusement park? You get to come, but I don’t?”

If he’d brought Violet along, Amelia might have believed it was a coincidence. But him showing up alone—there was no way.

She couldn’t even be bothered to argue. Daniel edged closer, abruptly changing the subject. “I had a talk with Mogan. He won’t bother you again.”
