Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 281

Once again, Amelia hated the marriage license with every fiber of her being. That little piece of paper was like a set of iron shackles, always chaining her down. It drove her mad.

Robert glanced back at her, and Amelia immediately understood the meaning behind his look. With a resigned sigh, she stopped resisting and allowed Daniel to come in.

Whatever. Let him in. If he wants to make trouble for himself, that’s his business.

Robert set breakfast out on the dining table, placing plates and mugs with his usual gentlemanly flair. He turned to Daniel with a polite invitation: “Mr. Campbell, would you care to join us?”

Daniel’s pride was written all over his face. “It doesn’t look very appetizing. I’m picky about my breakfast.”

Amelia rolled her eyes and headed for her bedroom. Halfway down the hall, she turned around and snapped, “Why are you following me?”

Daniel shot back, “Who says I’m following you? I’m just touring my own house.”

Amelia bit back a retort. “Then go tour some other room. Ruby’s still sleeping—don’t wake her up.”

With a little pivot, Daniel headed in the opposite direction.

The apartment Amelia had bought was a spacious, fully furnished place with huge windows in every room overlooking the river. Sunlight flooded the space and the view was spectacular—perfect for living.

Daniel paused in the children’s room for a while, frowning at how small it was. No wonder Ruby always sneaked into Amelia’s room. If he had to stay here, he wouldn’t like it either.

He stood there, thinking for a few minutes, already forming a plan to expand Ruby’s room. There was no way she could keep barging into Amelia’s; after all, he was planning to move into the master bedroom with Amelia eventually. Having a kid constantly interrupting would be a nuisance.

Satisfied with his preliminary renovation ideas, Daniel stepped out of the room—just as Ruby emerged from the master bedroom, rubbing sleep from her eyes.

The aroma of breakfast must have been too tempting, because Daniel, left alone in the living room, soon felt his stomach rumble. With no hesitation, he walked right over to Amelia’s spot, sat down, and picked up her half-finished bowl of soup.

Robert looked up from clearing the table. “Mr. Campbell, there’s fresh soup in the kitchen. You don’t have to finish Amelia’s.”

Daniel didn’t miss a beat. “I don’t mind sharing with my wife.” He ate with such nonchalance and elegance that no one could tell he was having someone else’s leftovers. “Not wasting food is a tradition passed down for generations in Windtopia. Every meal should be cherished—you can’t just throw it away.”

Robert paused, eyeing him. “Weren’t you just saying you’re picky about breakfast? That you didn’t want any?”

Daniel raised an eyebrow as he took another unhurried spoonful. “Did I? Oh, you mean that. Just a joke, Mr. Rubin. Surely you can tell when someone’s joking.”

Robert fell silent.
