Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 310

Amelia was flat broke—that was a fact. She had no idea how long the hurricane would last—another fact.

She stood there, weighing her options for a moment, her expression full of bravado, though she didn’t feel any. In the end, she swallowed her pride and settled onto the sofa.

Clutching a throw pillow to her chest, she absently fussed with the tasseled edge, her mood sour.

If she sat out in the hotel lobby, she’d have to endure the constant stares of strangers, all while starving and pretending not to care. At least in Daniel’s suite, there was food, water, and a bed—his king-sized bed, no less.

Sitting was sitting, she thought. She wasn’t above knowing where she’d be more comfortable.

Daniel finished his breakfast with his usual, effortless grace. When he stood, the edges of his robe swayed with the movement. Out of the corner of her eye, Amelia couldn’t help but glance at him.

This jerk had found a way to get her fresh clothes; surely, he could manage to dress himself properly too.

Catching her gaze, Daniel sprawled on the sofa across from her, arms stretched along the backrest, making a show of his robe. “I stayed in this on purpose, just so you could look. If you want a peek, just look—no need to sneak glances.”

What a nutcase.

Amelia ignored him entirely, refusing to so much as glance his way. As far as she was concerned, this was just a “temporary lobby.”

“Amelia.” She kept ignoring him, but Daniel only seemed more amused. He watched her quietly for a moment, then said, “Yesterday, you suddenly took me off your blocked list, and that new photo on Facebook felt a bit staged. What’s the plan—trying to rile me up, make me file for divorce first?”

She said nothing, keeping her face carefully blank. Daniel seemed to have an epiphany, his mood brightening. “Didn’t expect I was so important to you, that you’d even hire someone to put on a little show. Honestly, I’m a bit touched.”

She couldn’t keep it in. “You really are out of your mind.”

“If you say so.” Daniel shrugged, completely unfazed. “Your call. Whatever you say, I’ll go with it.”

“Then why don’t you leave, since I’m asking so nicely?”

Of course, he had no intention of complying. Daniel simply tuned out anything he didn’t want to hear and switched topics. “Want to call home and let them know you’re safe?”

She had been thinking about calling home—Ashley knew she was on Diamond Isle, and with the news showing the hurricane, she’d be worried if she couldn’t reach Amelia.

Suddenly, Daniel’s handsome face muscled its way into the frame. Ruby squealed, “Uncle Daniel!”

“Call me Dad,” Daniel replied with a half-smile.

Amelia shoved his face out of view, hurrying to say, “Mommy has to go, darling. Be good for Ashley, okay?”

She ended the call before anyone could say more.

On the other end, Ruby blinked her big eyes. “Mommy’s staying with Uncle Daniel? I saw Uncle Daniel was wearing a bathrobe.”

Ashley’s eyes crinkled with laughter. “Guess the hurricane isn’t all bad. Good luck to you, sir.”

Ruby asked innocently, “Good luck with what?”

Ashley, ever the romantic, grinned. “With love, of course.”
