Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 312

It took Daniel less than a second to shift from his usual polished charm to something cold and venomous. Narrowing his eyes, he sneered, “Not afraid of getting yourself killed, are you?”

Amelia hadn’t expected Robert to come upstairs—she’d told him to wait for her in the lobby. Not wanting trouble, she grabbed Robert’s sleeve and pulled him toward the exit. “Let’s go.”

The door slammed behind them with a thunderous bang. Out of the corner of her eye, Amelia saw Daniel following, stepping into the elevator with them.

The mirrored walls of the elevator reflected all three of them—their tense, awkward triangle on full display. Both men’s gazes were fixed on her, making her skin prickle. She forced herself to act like she didn’t notice, even as the atmosphere pressed down on her.

Thankfully, the elevator shot downward at breakneck speed. Before the doors had even fully parted, Amelia bolted out, desperate for air.

God, that was suffocating.

Behind her, Daniel’s voice rang out, low and cutting. “Drop the act. I know there’s nothing between you two.”

Robert turned, unsure how much Daniel actually knew. He kept his tone even. “There’s nothing now. Doesn’t mean there won’t be.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed with danger. “So you’re really going to play the homewrecker? Guess you left your morals at the door.”

Robert just smiled. “From what I hear, if it weren’t for Mr. Campbell’s endless interference, you two would have divorced already. The real issue isn’t with us—it’s with you.”

Us?

A hot surge of anger shot through Daniel’s chest. The overhead lights cast harsh shadows across his face. “If you’re waiting for us to split, let me be perfectly clear: you’ll die waiting. Amelia and I will still be together, hand in hand. We are never getting divorced.”

Amelia realized Robert wasn’t following and turned to call him back.

Robert tossed one last remark over his shoulder. “Mr. Campbell, you can force a relationship, but it’ll never be sweet. Why bother?”

Maybe it wouldn’t be sweet, Daniel thought, but at least it would quench his thirst. He didn’t care if it tasted good—he just wanted a bite.

Overflowing with happiness, Violet barely noticed how tense he looked. She picked up the lilies from the table and beamed at him. “Daniel, look—the florist said lilies mean blessings and good luck. And look at me, I really did get lucky today! You showing up is the best luck I could ask for.”

Just then, a freshly cut stem slipped from her hand and dropped to the floor. Daniel stepped right onto it, his expression turning to steel. “Did you tell Amelia you’re having my child?”

Violet froze. Her joy evaporated, replaced by a cold wave of dread. His eyes were glacial, and her heart lurched. She stammered, “N-no… I… I didn’t…”

Daniel didn’t need proof. He knew Amelia would never lie, especially about something like this. Violet, on the other hand, absolutely would.

His gaze was as sharp as a blade. “You know I wouldn’t be here unless I already figured it out.”

Violet’s nerves frayed under his stare. She backed away instinctively, bumping into the table. Her hand shot out to steady herself, knocking over a vase. Water spilled everywhere.

“…Did Amelia say that?”
