Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 345

Amelia was poring over documents when she heard the door open. Thinking the department head had arrived, she hastily stood up—only to see Daniel walk in. Halfway out of her seat, she dropped right back down.

If annoyance could be spelled out strand by strand, the look on her face would have said, “Why you, of all people?”

Daniel laughed, clearly exasperated. “You’re not happy about talking to the boss? There are people who’d kill to get a meeting with me, you know.”

Keeping her expression unreadable, Amelia replied, “Is the company so bored that even a project of this scale needs Mr. Campbell’s personal supervision…”

She broke off mid-sentence, suddenly remembering something. Her face darkened. “If you’re here to fight Violet’s battles, don’t bother. I’m not backing down this time, no matter who you send.”

Daniel pulled out the chair next to her and sat down, snapping instantly into his businesslike demeanor. “Chief Amelia, would you mind showing some professionalism? We’re on office hours—let’s keep personal matters out of this.”

His words caught her off guard, and after that, she didn’t bring up anything outside of work.

Daniel listened with a mix of focus and distraction. Every time Amelia glanced up, she caught him watching her instead of the documents. She seized on his own words to jab back: “Mr. Campbell, some boundaries, please? Our time is valuable—let’s not waste it.”

Daniel’s gaze slid lazily away from her. “And who says I’m wasting time? Every moment right now is precious to me.”

That was the infuriating thing about Daniel. He might seem absentminded, but he always zeroed in on market gaps with precision and offered sharp, incisive solutions.

He was a jerk, sure, but his talent was undeniable. No wonder Ethan Campbell trusted him to run the Campbell Group.

When they finished discussing the project, Amelia gathered her files and prepared to leave.

“It’s lunchtime. Want to eat together?” Daniel caught her wrist, his fingers lingering a little too long on her delicate skin.

Amelia pulled her hand back without hesitation. “Mr. Campbell, let’s keep personal and professional separate.”

“We’ve been all business all morning. Can’t we take a personal moment now?” Daniel’s eyes lingered on her flawless face. “You keep calling me Mr. Campbell and show up in that sharp suit—anyone would think we were a married couple flirting at work.”

Daniel twirled a black pen between his fingers. “You call this bullying? Compared to what Amelia’s daughter went through, Violet got off easy.”

Mogan snapped back, “No one wanted anything to happen to Amelia’s daughter. Why are you blaming Violet for that?”

With a sharp crack, Daniel slammed the pen onto his desk. “Drop the act.”

Mogan fell silent.

“Whether you’re involved or not, you know the truth,” Daniel said, his eyes icy. “This time, the orders came straight from the old man and Mrs. Campbell. My hands are tied, so don’t waste your breath with me.”

Mogan retorted, “Now you’re hiding behind Mr. and Mrs. Campbell’s authority?”

Daniel gave a thin smile. “Those two? Trust me, even Mr. Brown would think twice before crossing them. You know exactly how much weight they carry. I warned you before: No matter what you think of Amelia, she’s still Mrs. Campbell. Her patience isn’t weakness. With Mr. and Mrs. Campbell backing her, push comes to shove, and no one’s walking away unscathed.”
