His voice shook with urgency.
Amelia’s frown deepened. She had no idea what he was getting at with this sudden question.
Mogan’s gaze was fixed on her, unwavering. “Answer me. You love apple turnovers, right? You’ve always loved them, ever since you were a kid?”
Amelia felt even more unsettled by his question, but before she could speak, Cedric’s phone rang. He pressed Mogan down with one hand, and, seeing that Mogan didn’t resist, freed the other to answer the call.
Cedric was just beginning to explain the situation when the voice on the other end suddenly dropped, urgent and commanding. “Get Mogan out of there. Now!”
Cedric barely had time to respond before Daniel repeated, even colder, “Right now. Immediately!”
Cedric didn’t hesitate. He started to comply, but Mogan suddenly twisted free. “Daniel, what aren’t you telling me?”
Daniel’s furious voice blasted through the phone, so loud everyone in the car could hear it, even without speaker mode. “Violet just tried to kill herself. And you still have time for this nonsense, Mogan?”
Mogan froze. Panic flickered across his face. He shoved Cedric aside, slammed the door, and tore off in his car.
As the sound of the car faded, Daniel’s voice softened. “Put Amelia on the phone.”
Amelia refused, arms folded. Cedric had no choice but to put the call on speaker and hold the phone out.
“Amelia—”
Daniel managed only her name before Amelia cut him off, utterly cold. “Your precious Porcelain Doll is threatening suicide. Shouldn’t you be with her instead of calling me?”
She brushed Cedric’s hand away, shut the car door, and drove off without looking back.
At home, Amelia changed clothes, then went to pick up Ruby from preschool. She refused to spare another thought for people who meant nothing to her.

The readers' comments on the novel: Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel)
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
