Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 368

Amelia felt nothing. One was trash, the other a snake; since they’d come begging for her blessing, she wished them both a lifetime of infertility and a house full of children—let fate sort it out.

She slept soundly through the night and woke refreshed, taking her time over a leisurely breakfast. After nearly a week of grueling work on the tech expo, the director—struck by an uncharacteristic bout of generosity—gave everyone two days off.

With Ruby at preschool, Amelia finally had the house to herself. She lost herself in a movie, watered her plants, and let the entire day drift by in serene contentment.

By four in the afternoon, she told Ashley to get dinner started while she drove out to pick up Ruby.

She had barely pulled out of the neighborhood when a black SUV barreled straight toward her. Her heart jumped—she slammed on the brakes. The SUV screeched to a halt, missing her bumper by less than half a foot.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Adrenaline pounding in her veins, Amelia was about to step out and unleash her anger when a shadowy figure darted over, yanked her car door open, and dragged her out.

Her back slammed against her own car. Before she could react, the man gripped her shoulders and shoved her toward the SUV, as if intending to force her inside.

She barely managed a cry for help before Cedric came charging in, kicking the man squarely away.

The man grunted and staggered back, and Amelia finally saw his face.

Mogan.

“Mogan, I haven’t done anything to you. What are you losing your mind about now?”

Mogan’s eyes were bloodshot, dark circles painting his face. He looked like he hadn’t slept all night, glaring at her with pure venom. “Haven’t done anything? Violet’s in a wheelchair thanks to you! All because of you. You’re so vicious—why wasn’t it your legs that got ruined?”

He yanked a steel pipe from the passenger seat—thick as a wrist—and swung it at her legs.

There it was. A crescent-shaped birthmark. Amelia had a crescent moon birthmark on her waist.

Amelia frantically pulled her shirt down. Thankfully, only the waist was torn, not exposing too much.

“What the hell is wrong with you!” she snapped, genuinely furious now. While he stared, stunned, she kicked him hard in the shin. He barely flinched—just stumbled back a few steps, his eyes locked on her, shock and disbelief twisting his features again and again, as if the ground had just shifted beneath his feet.

Amelia stared, puzzled. What on earth had gotten into him?

Mogan’s fingers trembled as he reached for her, but Cedric intercepted the hand before he got close.

Cedric efficiently twisted Mogan’s arm behind his back, pinning him to the car with a thud. Mogan’s breath came in ragged gasps, his face turned toward Amelia.

“You like to eat crabapple blossoms, don’t you?”
