Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 375

By the time the two elders had finished their chat, Amelia heard Grandma Edith calling her. “Amelia, come here, dear. I’d like a word.”

Amelia took the phone and motioned for Ruby to go play with her building blocks on the other side of the room.

“Amelia, Daniel told me what happened yesterday,” Grandma Edith said, wasting no time on technicalities like evidence. She simply concluded, “There’s no doubt about it. That woman did it—she’s just trying to get back at you out of spite.”

Amelia pressed her lips together. “Grandma, I might need to lean on you again.”

“Oh, what are you saying?” Grandma Edith scoffed. “You’re my granddaughter! There’s no ‘leaning’ or not leaning—my strength is yours, and the Campbell family’s strength is yours too. Use it however you want. Hit back as hard as you like—don’t worry, I’m always here to catch you if you fall.”

Amelia felt a lump rise in her throat, her eyes stinging with emotion.

But before she could say anything, Grandma Edith changed course. “However, Amelia, there’s something you need to consider.”

“What is it?”

“That woman’s like a mad dog. And mad dogs can bite hard. I’m not afraid of much, but I do worry—if you and Ruby aren’t careful, you might get caught up in her craziness. That worries me.”

Amelia’s stomach churned as she thought about the things that had been delivered to their home. These underhanded tricks hadn’t caused any real harm yet, but if it kept happening, Ruby—still so young—might end up scarred for life.

And with the “gift” Amelia planned to send in return, there was no telling if things would escalate even further.

Still, Amelia was silent.

Grandma Edith added, “And relax, that rascal’s not living here anymore. Back when you were around, he’d at least show up for the holidays. Now? Ha! We can barely get him to come home even for Christmas. Seeing him is harder than meeting the Pope.”

Amelia couldn't help but let out a small, helpless sigh.

“Listen to your grandma, Amelia. You need to keep Ruby safe before you can focus on anything else. Once she’s secure, you’ll be free to do what you need—give them a taste of their own medicine, show them not to mess with you.”

Then Grandma Edith grew playful, almost pleading, “Come on, Amelia, be a good girl. I adore Ruby! The doctors say having people I love around and talking with me helps keep my health stable. Please, bring Ruby and stay with me for a while? Just say yes, sweetheart—come on, please?”
