Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 377

Grandma Edith’s health was always touch and go. No one ever really argued with her anymore; it was easier to just go along with whatever she wanted.

After dinner, she tugged Ruby along to show off her “little princess” bedroom.

Amelia almost thought they had walked into the wrong house.

The old manor had once been a stately estate, and the renovation kept all its traditional, wood-paneled charm. But Ruby’s room? It was an explosion of pink—pink curtains, pink carpet, so much pink that even the mosquitoes would probably show up wearing little pink bows.

But the real showstopper wasn’t the decor. It was the bed—a sprawling pink castle, complete with a slide.

Ruby was in heaven. She couldn’t stop climbing up and sliding down, her laughter ringing through the house like silver bells.

Grandma Edith patted Amelia’s hand. “The room was finished a while ago. We had all the air quality checks done—everything’s safe. The bed just arrived today, but don’t worry, it’s the best you can buy. No nasty chemicals.”

Amelia blinked. “You had this ready in advance?”

Grandma Edith gave her a sly wink. “From the moment I first laid eyes on Ruby, I started planning. Oh, Amelia, you might fool everyone else, but you can’t fool me. Ruby is my great-granddaughter, through and through.”

Amelia was at a loss for words.

After a while, Ruby was sweaty from all the sliding. It took Amelia putting on her stern face to get her to agree to a bath.

Amelia worried Ruby might have trouble adjusting her first night in the manor and planned to sleep with her. But Ruby shook her head resolutely.

“Mom, I’m a big girl now. I can sleep on my own!”

Sometimes, it’s not the child who has trouble letting go—it’s the parent. Amelia had to laugh at herself. She finished Ruby’s bedtime story, watched her drift off, kissed her gently on the forehead, and slipped out.

She had no idea that the moment her footsteps faded, the door creaked open and Grandma Edith snuck in, clutching a bag of KFC. Bunny, who’d been pretending to sleep, shot upright.

They high-fived in midair. “Midnight snack time!”
