Chapter 51 It’s My Fault

Chapter 51 It’s My Fault

Peggie’s POV:

The moment I heard the doorknob turn, I already knew who it was.

I glanced at Deanna across the room, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

Deanna, this time I’ll make you pay.

Without a second thought, I shut my eyes, lifted the steaming cup in my hand, and threw the hot tea onto myself.

Argghhh!

The boiling water splashed over my skin, and a sharp scream tore from my throat.

The burning sensation spread like wildfire, searing me so fast I almost passed out.

Within seconds, angry red welts covered my chest and arms, swollen and raw. The sight was terrifying.

Deanna’s POV:

When Peggie raised the cup, I thought she was going to throw it at me.

I even grabbed my bag to shield myself.

But thenshe turned it on herself. What kind of insane person does that?

Watching her stage this little performance, I almost wished Violet was here to take notes.

Right then, the door slammed open.

ake rushed in like a storm.

His eyes flickered with surprise when he saw me, but the moment he spotted Peggie sprawled on the couch, soaked and trembling, his shock turned into rage.

He darted to her side, grabbed a towel, and began patting her dry. His voice thundered at me, Deanna! What did you do to Peggie?!

Peggie’s tears slid down her cheeks as she clung to Jake’s arms, her voice soft and broken.

Jake, don’t blame Deanna. I’m fine. It was my fault. I wasn’t careful and spilled the tea on myself.

I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes.

Here we go again.

That fake, pitiful actso obvious, so cheap,

And yet, men always fall for it.

Jake didn’t question her further. He quickly pulled out his phone and called Jorge.

Minutes later, Jorge burst into the room carrying a firstaid kit. He worked quickly, applying ointment and cool compresses to Peggie’s burns.

The whole time, Peggie kept comforting them.

Jake, Jorge, I’m fine. I’m glad the tea wasn’t too hot. It’s no big deal.

But didn’t she claim that if the tea had been just a little hotter, I would’ve disfigured her for life?

She wasn’t comforting them; this bitch was fanning the flames.

Jorge exploded in an instant. He shot up, pointed at my face, and shouted, Deanna, how could you be so vile? Peggie has surgery tomorrow, and today you tried to burn her with hot tea! What kind of twisted mind do you have?

He raised his hand to strike me. My heart sank, and I tried to dodge, but Jake caught his arm just in time.

I sneered back, Which of you actually saw me pour hot tea on her? Couldn’t she have poured it on herself? Don’t pin this on me.

Peggie spoke in her weak, gentle voice.

Deanna, I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. I don’t blame you.

Then she turned to Jorge. Don’t be so harsh on her. It’s my fault that she doesn’t like me. This is all because of me.

Not on purpose?!Jorge roared, furious now. Jake, let me go! I need to teach this woman a lesson today and put her in place.
