Chapter 52 I Give Jake a Slap

Jorge’s POV:

Hearing Deanna’s words, I glared at her, my eyes burning red.

This woman really is vile.

She couldn’t even compare with Peggie.

I still couldn’t understand why Jake would fall for someone like her.

But the weight of Jake’s Alpha presence pressed down on me, snapping me back to my senses. My chest tightened with unease.

I took a deep breath, leaned close to Peggie, and whispered, If she gives you any trouble, call me right away. I’ll be right outside.

Then I shot Deanna one last vicious glare before storming out.

Jake’s POV:

After Jorge left, only the three of us remained in the room.

Peggie sat quietly on one side of the sofa. I stood facetoface with Deanna.

My jaw tightened. My brows drew together as I stared at her, refusing to look away.

Ever since that day I ran away from the bridal shop in humiliation, I’d drowned myself in long days of work and heavy nights of drinking.

But every time I closed my eyes, I saw those marks on her neckthat glaring hickey. And I heard her cold words telling me that her first time was with those rogues.

It felt like my chest was crushed by a weight I couldn’t lift.

Anger. Disgust. Guilt. All of it twisted together, burning me from the inside out.

Then I wonderedhad she done it deliberately? Had she left those marks just to spite me?

Besides being violated by those men, had she also been fooling around with others just to rub it in my face?

The thought made me feel like my pride had been stomped into the dirt.

At times, I wanted nothing more than to strangle her, just to stop her from disgracing me again.

But looking at Deanna now, her face was still calm, cold, and untouched by guilt or fear. That was the final snap of the cord holding

me back.

Was it you who poured the hot tea on Peggie?I questioned.

Deanna fired back. What if I said no?

Deanna, how can you say that?Peggie’s voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes. I’ve already forgiven you, Why would you accuse me of hurting myself?

Chapter 52 I Give Jake a Slap

Lignored her for the moment, my eyes locked on Deanna. My voice grew harder. Answer me. Was it you?

Her laugh was bitter and sharp. Jake, what is it you really care about?

What did I care about?

I cared that her first time wasn’t with me.

It bothered me that maybe she had been fooling around with some stranger just to get back at me.

I cared so much it was tearing me apart.

These past days, rage had just been eating me alive with nowhere to go.

And still, she stood there, without any remorse, as if she’d done nothing wrong.

I wanted to drag her back and wash every trace off her until she was spotless again.

But deep down, I knew part of the situation was my fault too.

I drew in a slow breath. If you tell me it wasn’t you, I’ll believe you.

Jake! Are you saying you think I poured the hot tea on myself?Peggie suddenly broke down in tears, her voice shaking hard. Is that really how little you think of me?

Deanna’s POV:

I looked at Jake’s dark, stormy face, then at Peggie’s wideeyed disbelief.

My voice was calm. Believe me or don’t. I don’t care.

I hadn’t done anything.

Why should I need him to trust me?

I didn’t love Jake anymore.

What did it matter if he believed me or not?

I wasn’t about to play that old game again, begging to score points in his heart.

That kind of foolishnessI was done with it.
