Chapter 59 Worn–Out Photo
Deanna’s POV:
Aaron led me into a sleek office.
A secretary walked in right away, placed a glass of water on the desk, and slipped out.
Aaron said, “Ms. Wiley, please wait a moment. The Alpha is finishing up a meeting and will be here soon.”
Then he left quietly, leaving me alone in the massive room.
I sank into the couch, glancing around.
This office truly suited Luis‘ status.

What stood out the most was an entire wall of display shelves, crammed with hundreds of limited–edition model cars. Everything from old–school classics to cutting–edge supercars, all neatly arranged in rows.
I’d bet good money the real versions were parked in his garage.
I stood, wandered over, and picked up one of the models for a closer look.
When I turned, something on the desk caught my eye. In the corner sat a photo, its edges worn and faded.
It showed a little girl with a scruffy puppy.
A dog?
That had to be Puddy when he was tiny.
Even in the picture, he looked soft but a little rough, as if he hadn’t been fed enough, curled up and barely moving.
The little girl’s head was bent, her face hidden. A small hand was stroking Puddy’s head gently.
She wore a blue–and–white dress with patches sewn in, and had a smudge of dirt on her cheek.
The girl and the pup looked poor and fragile, totally out of place in this polished office.
I set the model car back down and started toward the photo, trying to catch a clearer glimpse of the girl’s face–when the door swung open.
Luis walked in, tall and lean.
I lifted my head and met his gaze.
His eyes were narrow and piercing, hard to read, with only the faintest trace of chill, easy to miss if you weren’t looking closely.
He was dressed casually today–a printed shirt with the top buttons undone and long black dress pants that emphasized his tall, straight frame.
He didn’t have to say a word. The weight of his presence made the whole room feel heavier, like the air had thickened.

After a beat, he shut the door behind him and stepped closer. His tone distant and cold.
“Ms. Wiley, what brings you here?”
Ms. Wiley.
So stiff.
Were you still angry about what I said about a one–night stand the other day?
Didn’t think he’d carry a grudge, not with how laid–back he usually acts.
But I came here to ask for help.
So, I pushed down my pride and kept it all business.
“Luis, you pledged eight billion to Mistbane Pack. We’re still waiting on the last four billion–when’s it coming?”
