My eyes shrank at his words.

That wasn’t what I meant.

I only wanted to tell him that I’d broken up with Jake and that I wasn’t someone who fooled around.

I froze, staring at him in confusion.

Luis reached out and pinched my earlobe. His fingers were cool. I shivered as they brushed against my neck.

Before I could reply, his hand pressed firmly against my back, pulling me into his chest.

He leaned down, his lips brushing so close to my cheek that his warm breath tickled my ear.

“But if Ms. Wiley approves,” he murmured, “then I’ll just keep improving. Next time, I’ll be even better.”

His hot breath traced my ear and seemed to burn straight to my heart.

Hearing him say those shameless things in broad daylight made my cheeks flush bright red.

Panicked, I let out a small, surprised cry. I pushed him. “Please… stop this.”

Luis put a finger lightly to my lips. “Shh! This office isn’t soundproof. If you want to make a noise, next time we’ll find somewhere private. You can scream as much as you like.”

I didn’t believe his office wasn’t soundproof, but I was terrified someone might overhear. I bit my lip and stayed silent.

In my panic, I punched his chest with my fist.

The instant I did it, I regretted it. It looked like a girlfriend’s playful pout, not a serious shove.

I quickly pulled my hand back. Luis didn’t seem to care, which let me breathe easier.
