Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 79

79 Are You Two Really Together?

Peggie’s POV:

I froze, stunned. I cupped my face and looked up.

This witch actually hit me.

Since I came home, Jake had been treating me like a queen. Nobody had the nerve to humiliate me.

I tried to rush forward and returned the slap. But the two werewolf guards behind her instantly stepped forward. Their presence felt heavy and controlledlike real Gamma warriors. They stared at me without blinking.

All my bravado faded, and I staggered two steps backward.

1 rebuked defiantly, I never agreed to this! Muses moving into Mistbane’s mall has nothing to do with me.

Nothing to do with you?Ursa sneered. She tipped her chin at the guards. Then what are you standing there for? Take care of her.”

The guards closed in. My lips trembled. I wrapped my arms around myself in terror.

What are youtrying to do? Ursa, you can’t do this to me. I am-I stammered, I’m Lincoln’s daughter.

One guard looked at me with blank eyes. Sorry, Ms. Pearson.

Then he planted a hard kick in my stomach.

Arghh!

Pain hit me like a wave. I was thrown like a rag doll, my back smashing hard against the wall with a dull thud. A hot, metallic taste flooded my mouth, and I spat blood, which soaked the front of my white dress.

I slumped to the floor and watched Ursa click her heels toward me, looking down with a cold, superior glance.

I don’t want to see you again. Next time, it won’t be just a kick to the stomach.

She said that, then turned and climbed into the RollsRoyce.

I pushed up on my arms. My whole body burned with a sharp, deep pain, and my skin kept trembling.

Deanna!

If it weren’t for you, Ursa would be begging me today.

If you hadn’t latched onto Jake, I wouldn’t be in this mess.

This time I won’t go easy on you, bitch.

My hand shook as I pulled out my phone. Jorgecan you do me one last favor?

Deanna’s POV:

1/2

I sat in the corner of the café, twirling a silver spoon in slow circles through my coffee.

The sunlight outside was soft, slipping through the glass and warming my face.

Just then, the bell over the café door chimed as someone walked in.

Violet stepped inside wearing a sleek black dress and oversized sunglasses that covered half her face.

Her eyes scanned the room until they landed on me. She walked toward me.

She slid into the chair across from me and tossed a delicate gift box onto the table.

Here’s what you wanted. I fought for it at the auction. You know, I just got off the plane, and you dragged me here right away. Was it really that urgent?

I grabbed the box and hugged it close, smiling. Thank you so much, bestie.

She shot me a look and clicked her tongue. Alright, spill it. Who’s the guy this time?

My hands froze midmotion as I started opening the box.

I muttered, You make it sound like I fall for someone every time I buy a gift.

Inside was the luxury watch I had spotted in a magazine, the one recently put up at a big auction house.

I thought it fit Luis perfectly. Since Violet was filming near there, I asked her to bid on it for me.

She arched a brow. I don’t know about other people, but you? Please. When you were with Jake, you had me running errands every day to buy him gifts. And now you’re all worked up again. If that’s not you catching feelings, then what is?
