Chapter 91 A Plea
Deanna’s POV:
I watched Violet reach for Peggie, ready to tear her dress off.
Jake stood up at once. He slipped off his suit and threw it over Peggie’s shoulders.
His Alpha presence hit the room like a warning. He swept his gaze across the room. His look was cold.
Those lower–ranking werewolves, who’d been whistling and jeering, went silent at once.
Someone shoved Violet aside. She staggered, drunk and unsteady.
red over and steadied her, then turned to Terence. “Happy birthday. The game’s over. We’re leaving.”
Before he could answer, I half–supported Violet toward the door.
She was so drunk she kept sliding every few steps we took. She looked like she might pass out, so I laid her down on a sofa in the hall.
I reached for my phone to call a server to help get her to a car when quick footsteps came from behind. A warm hand clamped my wrist.
I snapped to alert and tried to pull away.
“Let go of me!” I said.
“Deanna, let’s talk.”
I turned and stared at him coldly. “Jake, there’s nothing for us to talk about.”
“Peggie and I are done. If you don’t want her around, I’ll never see her again.”
“Yeah, it’s very thoughtful for you to pass her the suit,” I said flatly.
Jake’s fists tightened. His knuckles went white.
“That was just an Alpha protecting the weak,” he said. “I swear–this is the last time.”
I glanced at Violet, half–passed out on the sofa, and felt my patience slipping. “So what does that have to do with me?”
Jake’s eyes turned red. His voice grew hoarse.
“Deanna, I’m begging you. Come back to me. I used to be too proud. I didn’t know how to cherish you. I thought you’d always be there, right behind me. Please–just give me one more chance to make it right.”
1 froze at his plea.
I’d known Jake for five years. He had always been proud and distant–the Alpha at the very top of the pyramid. He was used to everyone bowing to him.
I had never seen him humble himself like this.

Chapter 91 A Plea
That was when I noticed the weariness on his face. Faint dark circles showed under his eyes.
His panic and humility stunned me. For a moment, I didn’t know how to respond.
“Mmm, I don’t feel good,” Violet murmured from the sofa.
Her voice snapped me back from my thought.

“Jake, we’re done,” I said. “There was a time when I longed to hear those words from you. But it’s been five years. Even the warmest heart goes cold. Let’s let each other go.”
His eyes turned cold. “Is this because of Luis?”
I didn’t answer.
Even without Luis, Jake and I would never have worked.
Luis wasn’t the reason I broke up with him.
Jake’s POV:
Why didn’t Deanna argue with me?
Did that mean she agreed?
The idea that she could feel anything for a werewolf like Luis hit me like a wave.
The thought that she might carry another Alpha’s scent crashed over me in a wave.
The rage drowned me instantly.
I gritted my teeth and forced the words out between them. “Deanna, everyone knows Luis and I are enemies. You’re my fiancée. Think about it–why would he want to be with you? He’s trying to get at me. He’s just having fun with you. Don’t be stupid.”
“Enough!” Deanna snapped. She clenched her fist so tightly her knuckles turned white.
“You think everyone’s like you?” she shot back. “Two–timing, never loyal. Jake, the only person you really love is yourself.”
I stared at Deanna, brows creasing. She looked like a hedgehog with its quills up, every part of her sharpened. Slowly, the hostility that radiated from her faded away.
What am I doing?
How had I turned this into another fight?
I came tonight to win her back, not piss her off.
With this, I tried to soften my voice and tone. “Deanna, I’m just worried about you. With Mooncrown Pack’s position in Lycanland, they won’t accept an ordinary Omega. Besides, Mooncrown and Blackcreek Pack from Sudland have old marriage ties. If you get involved with him, you’ll only end up hurt.”
Her face darkened. “I’ve been hurt enough by you. Do you think your pack ever respected me? Your mother humiliated me too.”
Her words hit me like a slap. I stood petrified.
