Rhett
~~
After he shook with laughter when Farkas insisted that he hated Isleen, Farkas stared at him with his brow furrowed in utter bewilderment.
"Rhett?" he finally managed to say. "What’s so funny?"
Rhett shook his head, the laughter slowly subsiding into a chuckle. "Nothing," he said, forcing the amusement from his voice. "Just... something crossed my mind."
He cleared his throat. "Look, we need to find
Cora. I want us to get into the new work Aceco threw our way as fast as possible."
Farkas frowned. "I know you’re changing the topic to evade my question by changing the subject."
Argh. Farkas just liked to pry. He was ALWAYS prying. In a good way though. But every time, he was always met with the same reaction from Rhett which was mostly silence without providing information or confiding in him aside from work.
Yet, Farkas never gave up on Rhett. There was a reason Rhett didn’t have that many friends and acquaintances. His aloof personality was the main reason.
Farkas sighed. "Fine," he threw his hand listlessly in the air. "I won’t pry. But know this, if you need someone to talk to, someone who won’t judge, someone who..." his voice trailed off, then firmed. "I’m here for you, brother."
Rhett finally looked up, gratitude warming his chest despite himself. He nodded at Farkas, unable to find the words to express what he felt. He really didn’t know how to handle his emotions except only with Isleen, of course.
"Alright then," Farkas said, clapping him on the shoulder. "I’ll send one of the men to bring Cora in. Shouldn’t be long." With that, he turned towards the door.
The moment Farkas left, Rhett’s worries settled back on him. His office suddenly felt cramped and suffocating. He stood up, undid a button from his shirt, and began to pace.
Had Kylo arrived? Was Isleen still arrested?
He couldn’t stay cooped up any longer. The need to see her, even from a distance, was overwhelming. And thus, he left his office and strode to the lobby.
Kylo had arrived and was about to hit the pink who had hit Isleen. Normally, Rhett would frown at such an act but right now, he rooted for Kylo to take the punch.
The soldiers wouldn’t let him though, as it should be. He waited until Kylo took the bail of Isleen and her friend and until they left. While they leave, he heard the remarks of the douchebag who dared to hit Isleen rant about being Darius’s nephew.
Now, that was something new.
Rhett wasn’t so surprised that a relative of Darius’s could be so rotten and break the pack’s rules. Darius himself was an embodiment of rottenness.
Perhaps, this was a way of getting back at the fool.
Rhett strolled to the lobby and went straight to grab the asshole’s chin. The boy was caught off guard and attempted to yank Rhett’s hand off his chin but Rhett caught it in time.
With vigor, he squeezed the hand until the boy cried out in pain. "Who are you? Are you crazy? Let go of me!" He roared.
