My skin itched, as I held myself back from just running to the door and throwing myself into his arms.
Gamma Rhett.
It was more obvious now that he was the one at the other end of the door. Even from that distance, I could pick up the scent of his musky cologne, causing my body to burn with desire. Memories of last night flashed through my head, my wolf growling in a way that made me realize that she wanted him.
But I couldn’t go meet him. I couldn’t open the door. So, I got up, trying to hide in my room. However, Cullen’s voice called me back, as the knocking from Rhett continued.
"Where do you think you’re going? That’s the door, go answer it." He nearly hollered, forcing me to look at him like he’d gone mad. The betrayer!
He was going to let Rhett know I was here. I had to make it up by explaining what happened this morning better to him. Yeah, I guess that could work.
I took in a deep breath, clenching and unclenching my fists to calm myself down. The mere presence of Rhett, even though I hadn’t opened the door yet made me feel like I was going to go insane with desire.
I missed him. I craved him. I needed him.
My steps were heavy, and I finally reached the door. Placing my hand— which was constantly fidgeting—on the doorknob, I swerved my head to see Cullen urging me on with a coy smile.
With a click, I opened the door, only to meet Rhett preparing to force himself in. He squinted his eyes in surprise, but that soon transformed into glee and joy I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed seeing.
It hadn’t even been a day.
"Gamma... Gamma Rhett?" I tried pretending like I hadn’t sensed his presence already before coming to the door. My eyes, however, faltered, looking away from his as he stared intently at me. My lips parted slightly, but I remained mute, unable to say anything else.
Our breathing seemed to be in sync with each other, as we both stood there silently. My heart raced faster than a freight train, my stomach fluttering with butterflies.
But eventually, Rhett coughed awkwardly, before speaking with a gruff voice. "I’m here to see your friend, Cullen. Is he in?"
What?
Gamma Rhett wanted to see Cullen? And, he just had to act like he was unbothered about seeing me. But he couldn’t hide it from me. I could sense it... the longing laced in his voice.
I nodded my head In reply to his question, but then I forced myself to gaze into his eyes. I ended up looking into those eyes some seconds longer than I’d planned, freezing like a deer under headlights.
I was entranced, my thoughts focusing on one person alone. I subconsciously leaned in closer to Rhett, my eyes softening with emotions I’d tried running away from this morning.
They all came back like a flood, almost overwhelming me. My heart raced even faster when I noticed Rhett leaning in too.
Were we going to kiss? Right here in the open? Did I even care anymore?
However, Rhett pulled away when Cullen’s cough from inside interrupted.
"Good afternoon, Gamma Rhett." Cullen greeted with a warm voice. It sounded forced, not going to lie.
Rhett smiled, as he made to step in. However, our bodies brushed against each other, causing my face to flush with heat as I got an even closer whiff of his cologne.
