Chapter 25: _ Two rapscallions

I however nodded at the elves, my heart swelling with appreciation. "Thank you," I whispered, truly meaning it.

The werewolf girl who had been bouncing on the balls of her feet, nudged Eloraen and Caelya playfully. "See, I told you she was kind! You didn’t even need to help me beg."

The elves chuckled softly. "Indeed," Caelya agreed. "It seems your intuition served you well. Isleen possesses a kind heart, one that forgives easily."

I turned crimson at that. Would Kylo be as forgiving when he learned that his Dad kissed me? And that I kissed him back? Or that I and his Dad kissed.

Oh, Lord; speak to me.

With a final goodbye wave, the elves left, leaving me alone with the girl.

I arched a brow. "So what now?" I was referring to why she hadn’t followed the elves.

"Erm — can we be f -friends?"

F — friends?!

Nah. I had this habit of fretting when it came to letting people in my life. However, I saw how hopeful she looked, and considering the fact that she had just lost a friend, I couldn’t say no to her.

Sighing, I puffed my cheeks, "Yeah, I guess. we could be friends."

Again, she embraced me without notice. "Thank you so much, Isleen. I haven’t been able to get you out of my head ever since you saved me."

"Ah — easy, girl." I chuckled. "That sounds like some gay shit right there."

She held out both of her hands playfully. "I have a mate. So, never."

"Better then. What’s your name, by the way?"

"Oh, geez. Silly me. Didn’t tell you my name all along. I’m Lupe." She extended her hand towards me.

I took it. "Nice to meet you, Lupe. Will you come in or you’ve got some things to do?"

"Come in? Awww! You’re going to invite me in? SURE!" Lupe jumped up with joy and held out her hands to me.

I chuckled and took then, Lupe and I turned towards the door, eager to get out of the corridor as we’d been there for almost an hour. But to our surprise and my utmost awe, the door creaked open before we could reach it, revealing Cullen and Liam standing right in the doorway.

My heart skipped a beat. Had they heard our entire conversation?

"Isleen? Who’s the new girl, and why were elves at our door?" Cullen asked, his gaze flitting between Lupe and me.

I sighed, wondering just when Cullen was going to grow up. Imagine eavesdropping on girls’ conversations. "It’s a long story," I muttered, pinching the bridge of my nose. "How long have you two been standing there though? Eavesdropping on us girls, huh?"

"Long enough to hear about good hearts and making friends." Cullen rolled his eyes.

Phew!

Relief washed over me. They hadn’t heard about my secret. My secret – it felt weird to say that I had a secret. What if I was already becoming like my parents?

They had secrets too.

Liam, however, stepped forward and offered Lupe a friendly smile. "Hi there, I’m Liam. Are you a friend of Megami’s?"

Hearing Liam call me Megami like that caused my heart a stir. That was Kylo’s term. Liam shouldn’t call me that again. I’d tell him later not to. Hearing what reminded me of Kylo at this moment when guilt was weighing me down was the last thing I needed.

Lupe tilted her head, scrutinizing him with amusement. "Is he your little brother?" she asked.
