Mated To My Boyfriend's Dad novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28: _ A pattern

Rhett cleared his throat. "Greetings, all. Thanks for coming on such short notice."

"We are happy to be here." Chorused the fairies.

"We want to know why we have been summoned." Chorused the elves.

Such was the distinction between the elves and fairies. Even as they all were in the room – old, young, and the like – all of them. Rhett wanted to investigate them all without any escaping his eyes.

"I am sure everyone in this room is well aware of the recent strange happenings in the pack. Firstly, the veil the fey entity we sheltered in this pack – which is you all, of course, has been breached by the vampires. That is the main clause of this gathering but we have other troubles." He paused, waiting for his words to sink in.

"What other concerns are there that connect to us?" Asked an elven woman who was clutching her child close to her.

Rhett wanted this to proceed as peacefully as it could. He sighed and was about to look up to reply when the door loudly creaked open. Every eye in the room turned toward the door to find Darius majestically striding in.

From beside him, "The pain in the ass is here." Farkas scoffed and Rhett couldn’t agree any less.

If you’d ask Rhett, Darius was more than a pain in the ass. He was more like a pain in the entire body.

"Sorry, sorry. Carry on, carry on..." Darius raised his hands to motion for the meeting to commence.

Murmurs had already begun to erupt in the room. Darius, that clown – he had created a distraction. The beta was always so clumsy.

It took the banging of the table before him for Rhett to be able to restore order back in the room.

He allowed a meaningful silence to stretch before continuing, ignoring Darius, "We have discovered wolf bones in the woods. I’m sure you all could have probably seen the news as this wasn’t the first case. This, coupled with the recent vampire activity..." He trailed off, his gaze sweeping across the room, searching the faces of the creatures who all looked melancholic now.

The elves had their ears sleeping as though they were about to cover their faces. The fairies on the other hand now had their pink skins turned pale in worry.

A murmur rippled through the crowd. One elf, tall and broad-shouldered, stepped forward. "Do you suspect us, Gamma Rhett?" His voice, though calm, held a hint of challenge.

The elves!

Darius cut through the conversation. "This is war. This is an ongoing investigation. Everyone is a suspect. Not to mention the veil that you all promised would protect the pack has proven to be ineffective. I have never heard of a veil being breached by creatures like ourselves without practical magic. Now, tell us, if you were in our shoes, would you not suspect yourselves?"
