The fairy, however, didn’t seem too offended by Darius’s accusation. She instead appeared too stunned to speak.
"I — I mean, I don’t..." She stammered, shifting back in her chair.
Darius chuckled and leaned into his. "Aha. Don’t you dare try to lie to me!" He banged on the table hard.
Rhett couldn’t take it anymore. "Stop, Darius! Stop! You’re scaring her."
"Well, she needs to be scared. Look at her." He pointed at the now trembling fairy. "She knows something!"
Rhett’s frustration didn’t allow him to know what to say to Darius. Sure, the fairy looked suspicious but it was also evident that it wouldn’t be so hard to drill from her whatever she knew.
Instead, Rhett strained his head behind and looked at Farkas who was by the glass for support. Farkas nodded at him, gesturing for him to keep calm.
Heavens knew he’d have given Darius a big bad blow on the face if it was left to him. He knew that wouldn’t end well so he turned to the fairy instead.
"What’s your name?" Rhett asked, totally ignoring Darius.
The fairy’s eyes darted from left to right. Her complexion began to shimmer with blue. It meant she was experiencing a fleeting anxiety.
"I’m – My name is Cora." She replied.
Rhett nodded. "Hi, Cora. Why are you so restless?"
"I’m not very..." She tried to sound composed.
Darius wagged his index finger back and forth in a disapproving manner. "Don’t you dare try to lie to us, I warned you before. I thought you fairies claim to not be liars."
"I’m not a liar!" Argued Cora.
Rhett tapped the desk repeatedly. He wasn’t ready to hear any more of this. "Tell us what you know, Cora. You are not a liar. So, tell us."
Her face fell now, and so did her shoulders. Her fingers suddenly turned to her object of attention as she picked on them one after the other.
"We are waiting, woman." Darius bitterly reminded.
Cora nodded. "I know." She slowly lifted her head, determination now settling in her eyes and her complexion turning pale with worry instead of that of anxiety which she wore before. "The missing family – I know them."
Bravo, Rhett thought to himself. They were heading somewhere.
"What are you waiting for? Continue! We are not spending forever here." Darius hollered at her.
Rhett had to sigh and keep mute. There was no point repeating to Darius to take it easy with her. He wasn’t going to listen.
