Chapter 85: _ Will Die To Protect Her

All these while and all he should have done was to interrogate Isleen. Liam’s brother who died during the attack was also somehow connected to Isleen indirectly too.

The dead teacher did too. Now, a woman in her street. He hoped to hell that this victim had never in any way interacted with Isleen.

If she had, it meant something was linking Isleen to some of these deaths. Perhaps, they had more than one killer. Maybe one was connected to Isleen in some way and the other, the random killer.

He knew good people when he saw them, so he knew Isleen was one. If not too good for her own good. But something was connecting some of these killings to her and he better find out what or who before someone else cracked it and it got her in trouble.

People like Principal Thorne would get her in trouble. For her, he needed to solve this case and save her from whatever impending danger. He had no idea why but he could sense it– almost feel it.

This danger. It was coming.

Finally, they arrived at the crime scene which was a two-story house with yellow police tape cordoning off the perimeter. A knot of dread tightened in Rhett’s stomach. As he stepped out of the van, his gaze darted towards Isleen’s apartment building across the street.

If something had happened in a house so close to hers, was she safe?

He forced himself to focus on the task at hand. A few officers were already there, taking statements and managing the scene.

Rhett approached them and asked the first question burning on his tongue.

"Who’s the victim?" he inquired, his voice clipped.

The soldier saluted Rhett. "Name’s Brenda Marie Beasley, sir. She was bitten, sir. Blood sucked dry."

What the–?

Blood sucked dry just like the teacher’s. This further solidified his suspicions about Isleen being an element of connection to these two deaths.

Principal Thorne might have been a jerk but it seemed his conspiracy theory had set Rhett on a path that he had almost allowed to slip his fingers.

This new victim was Isleen’s neighbor. The other was her colleague. Could it be that someone– maybe they had a rogue among them who wanted to take out the Omega?

Just like last the past with her parents...

He sincerely hoped she didn’t share any relationship with this new victim. Perhaps, if she had never spoken to this woman before, his doubts would be relinquished.

But if she had...

No. He didn’t want to think of the worst-case scenario.

Yet, his sixth sense was telling him something– telling him that Isleen might not be safe. It was his duty to keep her safe.

"And where is the body?" Asked Alistair.

The soldier whose name was Jenkins answered swiftly. "Gamma Rhett likes to get a look of the body at the scene in its actual position, so it’s still there."

Good; Rhett thought.

All of his soldiers knew and were following him as they should.
